"On the Road, Road Conditions" does not have an up to date answer on question 1, and no answer for qestion 2

Check out the Broome website at http://www.ebroome.com/ where you can follow links to the Tourist Bureau, or just send an email to tourism@broome.wt.com.au

More interesting - We have just rung the shire and it is open however they have forgotten to send our conditions update fax for a while. Wouldn't it be good if they could keep us updated. We usually get 5 faxes a week from them and have not seen any for a few days tell us of the status. We are working on it.Regards

Ken,

I am trying to get the info from the Shire office can you please give me a quick update on the status of the roads in the area (as per our WA Road Conditions) so that I can adjust the report. Additionally we are working on a way at the moment to allow members to update certain aspects of the report system.Regards

I went past Beagle Bay and back about three weeks ago in my work GU Nissan coil cab (with buggered shockers). It was quite good going up but it rained heavily before I could return. I slogged along in a river of mud and water for nearly 50 km in 2 gear 4wd with plenty of right foot and a lot of brown water everywhere. Some of the hardest driving I have ever done.

It dries out pretty quick, but you can expect long sections to be pretty badly chopped up and the tourist season has only just started. Don't have your tyres too hard as you will strike plenty of soft stuff. Stay in 4wd (except for the beaut bit near Beagle Bay) as the conditions change very quickly and passing vehicles will often force your LHS wheels up into deep sandy shoulders.

The short cut from near Beagle Bay down to the highway half way to Derby is probably still in bad shape. I'll check it out in a couple of weeks.

George,
Your qn is dated 15th April, the ExplorOz road conditions report for Cape Leveque is dated 14th April - i'd say that's pretty up to date. It says it is closed. We are on a fax stream direct from the Shire Council and the moment that they authorise a change in the report we get the fax and we update the report. ExplorOz
