I RECEIVED THIS RETURNING FROM RAINBOW BEACH
ACT NOW TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO CAMP & DRIVE ON NOOSA’S NORTH SHORE & COOLOOLA BEACHES.
A State government Committee of “selected” people is recommending changes and they will be introduced unless we act. This committee has no representation by fishers, campers, 4wd groups or people whose livelihood depends on beach usage. WHY?
Urge the State Government to listen to the people (mostly families) who use this area for recreation and relaxation.
Do you want to be able to camp and fish without too many restrictions?
Do you SUPPORT another tax ($30 per week-minimum)? A fee is proposed for vehicles to drive on the beach as well as a proposal to more than halve the number of campers? (The present 3000 campers will be reduced to 500 campers most weekends). This will take away the opportunity for family affordable holidays.
Do you support unrealistic speed reductions to 50 kph for the whole beach?

(If you don’t agree with the following clauses delete as you see fit.)
We urge the State Government to take heed of the wishes and needs of
the families who have used this area for over seventy years. is there
ANY evidence that the current system of camping is not sustainable.
The beach has remained fairly constant; aren’t there more brahimi kites,
more pippis, and more vegetation on the frontal coloured dunes?
1. The closing of the beach (to vehicles) between the first and third
cutting is desirable. Please do it. Is there any reason for closing
the beach to the river mouth? Leave access to the river mouth.
2. The monies collected from beach driving permits is unfair and
unrealistic and would be lost in collection and policing. It is a
way to stop your desire to use the beach. WHY is it being
imposed?
3. RAM is unnecessary and provides nothing for the fee. A fair
alternative is to issue daily beach permits at $2.00 per car, from
a dispensing machine. This would raise in excess of $100,000
p.a.(with no staff) to use n beach irnprovernents(toilets).
4. We support protecting the environment. We support using porta
potties and need more dump points, and want to continue
camping.

Hi
I have heard DEVELOPERS have put pressure on noosa council to develop
beach houses ect, from the first cutting down to north shore / river mouth.
We were involved in a survey early in the year, NOOSA COUNCIL and
NATIONAL PARKS surveyed 600 CAMPERS on the beach and NORTHSHORE
CARAVAN PARK.

They have already made there mind up,look at the development opposite
northshore resort, near the camel rides area, they will reduce the beach
camping, and improve the existing caravan parks which the noosa council
has taken over. I understand the road down to the third cutting will be
bitumened very shortly. we have been beach camping for many years and
our kids are taking their kids camping ther now.
YEARS TO COME YOU WILL ONLY SEE IT ON POST CARDS.

Cheers
Daza

Reducing the speed along the beach to 50kmph is not unrealistic - it's a friggin race track - and it's bad enough having to deal with idiots out on the roads let alone on an uncontrolled beach.
Dangerous.

Very true.
I would guess that the reason for the lower speed restriction (it's now 60km/h in that part isn't it?) is because drivers don't give way to pedestrians as they are suppose to do. So we only have ourselves to blame. Me included. I have NEVER seen a car stop or slow down to allow padestrians to cross the beach. If all drivers gave way to people on the beach, we wouldn't have this situation. But it's easier to have a tantrum after the fact.

It's a beach that you can drive on. Not a road that you can swim at.
