Just before Easter I purchased a HP iPAC hw 6965 PDA. The reason for doing so was the inclusion of an inbuilt GSP, TOM TOM software and ability to add EziExplorer and other mapping software.

Here is the story so far:

1.The TOM TOM connection code is blank. Apparently I have to wait a week or so to be blessed with this information.

2.Within 15 minutes of the purchase, I was informed by a colleague that his four month old unit was for sale at a saving of $400.

The unit is obviously a technology marvel. However, the gobbledygook and use of acronyms accompanying this product is only useful for those with an IQ of 250!

After (self) admitting I was a technology Moron, the “know it all” Son in law was called in to connect the unit to a myriad of stuff.

The afternoon started off well with a couple of quiet drinks, while he worked diligently with the unit and its connection with my PC. After two hour I started to notice aggressive body behaviour and a building sense of frustration.

As a caring, sharing Father in Law, I suggested he stop fooling around and “just do it”. This was met with $@*^%$#+. We are no longer talking to each other.

Luckily I’ll be able to hand the unit over to a colleague at work to set the unit up.

The next stage is the GSP setup and additional software. I’m not a negative person, but I do have an overwhelming sense of doom (at this stage I’m sure Sandman is overcome with mirth).

The old map and compass is starting to look good……!

LOL

Kim

Lucy

Tis' a sad life I live. The daughter has disowned me and the dog has packed the swag and left the building!

However, I will continue on my Technology Quest for the betterment of Mankind!

Have to go now, the Latte machine has finished the wash cycle.

Kim.

No chuckles from me mate.

I regard myself as a reasonably competent person when it comes to technical stuff.

Well let me advise my Forumite colleagues I am having a little difficulty myself with something technical.

I have a Dell Axim X51v you beaut PDA and have bought a Haicom 4 in 1 Bluetooth enabled holder to use in the vehicle.

All is sort of good. I have the Haicom's bluetooth GPS receiver inputting its signal to the PDA and both OziExplorer and CoPilot Live 6 are working well.

But friends, the Bluetooth GPS receiver is NOT talking to the PDA via Bluetooth, but via the PDA connector on the base of the holder. (Using COM1 port on the PDA)
As I said, it is working well, but only when the PDA is physically located in the holder.

I have pretty well given up on trying to get Bluetooth communications working.
It should be a fairly simple thing but Haicom does not have much in the way of "technical support" on their Web site. HAICOM BT GPS is showing as being connected but no talkies between the two devices via this link.

Apart from this, everything else is good.
I installed GPSGate on the PDA which enables sharing of the one input port with multiple applications. (CoPilot & OziExplorer)

Some things are possible, other things defy even the most diligent attempts.

So fear not Kim, for you are not alone in your frustrations.
Bill

For God's sake man, get a hold on yourself!

It's far worse than you think. My WiFi refuses to talk to BlueTooth. CDA has cracked it with GPRS and POP3 is totally confused. WLAN is under medication and TomTom is walking around in ever diminishing cirlces.

I'm going to attach a compass to the latte machine and go bush.....

LOL
