I Know A/t is all terrain and M/t is Mud terrain, but what does A/W stand for ?

The reason I ask is I am looking to buy a used set of ST-R Navara wheels (four spokes 16"x7") and getting a set of Hercules Terra-Trac A/W 245/75R16.

All Weather

Basically All Terrains

"All weather" does not mean "all terrain". It's to do with the European and American habit of using different tyres in summer and winter, and these are supposed to cover both I think. All weather tyres are made for sealed roads and not really suitable for any serious offroad driving.

The terra trac's A/W. Has a aggresive pattern for a road tyre.....I would call them a A/T. So far they have travelled all the same tracks as family members have with their BFGoodrich and Coopers ect and done it with ease. I will be the first to say if I was planning a remote trip I would not place my safety in them, but for day trips and weekends away they have been great. BUT they do suck on wet roads because of the tread pattern I reckon.

Thanks mate, Also do you think I could go any bigger than a 245/75R16 on a '06 D22 Navara DX Single cab with stock suspension lift? Would 265/75R16 be pushing it?

Hi Mitch
just asking about the terra trac's...why them? I put two on the back of my Patrol as when I got back from the UK as I needed something cheap to get it through rego inspection. They seem to perform ok off road but I have found them to be woefull on wet tar. I can hang the old 2.8 patrol sideways with just a small tickle of the pedal in the wet, scary when you consider how much power I don't have!!!
Mine are the 265/70R16. Plus the tread depth is quite low from new so they won't give great milage.

Cheers Stefan

Hate to be a killjoy but if you go over 25 mm larger than the manufacturer recomends then you have to have a enginers cert or you can find that the insurance company will wipe you as a modified vechile, that in Vic.
I have been told that this may apply Aust wide now so may pay to check with rta and insurance company.
Hope this helps ... Bushy

Apparently there is no laws set in stone, I read a very long winded thread somewhere where some guy tried to get to the bottom, He spoke to people from insurance companies, Transport Departments etc and no one could give him a definate answer. So every insurance company obviously has their own rules so I will make sure I change to one that will allow it if mine doesn't.
