Recently sold our Coromal Pioneer Silhouette off-roader and we loved it. Now looking for something with more creature comforts. Looking at Golden Eage, which seems to be closely related the Paramount mob. Does anyone have any experience with the Golden Eagle. They are a very nice looking van and better finish than Coromal in our opinion. Any comments would be appreciated, cheers, Alison

Hi Alison,
We bought a new Golden Eagle last year (built with our requirements) and initially was very happy with the van. The build quality is very good but we have had 3 problems:-
- the larger fridge was wired incorrectly - admittedly it was the 1st electronic fridge that was installed & they had wired the battery back up wrong.
- the TV antennae wire has a problem - obviously wired badly somewhere - is presently at the Dealer for fixing but they have to remove some of the siding to get to the internal wall wiring.
- on 2nd trip a wheel came off whilst travelling at 90 kph. The nuts had come loose somehow - even though I had checked them several times since new - the van had only travelled 900 km. Fortunately the damage was not too much other than new studs & wheel. The sad part of this is that Paramount refused to admit any liability - their blanket response was that loose wheel nuts are owners responsibility. Fortunately the Dealer is currently repairing the van at their expense. My research shows that the white painted rims that comes with the Golden Eagle (& many other vans) was the problem. If you buy a Golden Eagle option it up to alloy rims!
I'm still happy with the standard of the van despite the above - however, I'm as mad as with Paramount & their attitude - they have guaranteed an unhappy customer for life of the van. I'm out of pocket for the money I spent to get the van
home. Regards, Willy

Hi Willy, thanks for that, the van we have been looking at is a 2005, so hopefully any teething problems would have been ironed out. It sure does seem that just reading through various threads on this site, that the stock standard answer of any caravan dealer is "not our fault". One comment I thought was amusing was, "you must trust your dealer, just like you trust your real estate agent and your politician". Yes, I agree it does leave a bad taste and a bad feeling which seems to extend for the life of your van. Something like a Monday/Friday car I guess. Also we are in the West, and we do not get the same choice of people say in Qld or
Melbourne. cheers, Alison

nebles - you said you are in the west. Don't discount the idea of going east for a van - there is a lot more choice, generally cheaper, and you can save heaps on stamp duty, depending on what state, WA is extreme when it comes to stamp duty. Unless you are buying a real old cheapie, you will probably save the cost of the trip east.
