Just got back from 3 days and nights
camping on the
Yorke Peninsula - great time, BUT, partner has sore back from sleeping on blow up queen size mattress in tent.
Any suggestions on how to have a good nights sleep without the "pain in the back" in the morning????

I have the Oztrail Therma rest type Queen mattress that is about 100mm thick when inflated. SWMBO is very happy with it and it cost about $150.00

Do you use a stretcher or just chuck it on the floor of the tent????

I just have it on the ground, It helps if you remove all possible bumps before sleeping on it though i.e. remove the rocks etc.

Keb is right - the Thermarest style self inflating mattress is the way to please the delicate princess. No need to use a stretcher or bed - straight on the floor.
When we had the problem, my Managing Partner expressed skepticism that a Thermarest would be comfy, so the sales person said: "Take it home and sleep on it on the bedroom floor. Either bring it back or pay for it tomorrow." She bought it and though in recent years the thickness went up to 100 mm odd, the thin one did the job for many years.
Blow up mattresses are a disaster by comparison - cold, get leaks and are hard work blowing up as
well as uncomfortable. The thicker ones are a bit harder to roll up but still manageable.

Scoey, We used to use the self inflating mattresses prior to our current
camping set up and they were OK on softer ground but when sleeping on hard ground and stones in particular, "the pricess could still feel the pea in the mattress below"
If your the Scoey I think you are, LOL you can borrow it to give it a try.

Don't take the partner.
LOL
Self inflating beds are great. Warm, comfortable and not too giving which leads to the back not moving around at night, then the muscles not having to compensate which equals a not having a bad back.
The firmer the better.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Richard
I have a Coleman alloy which is light and rated to carry a bit below that. I put a self inflating mattress on top.
What package size is a Goliath and how heavy is the unit? How much $?
thanks

Packaged about the size of a small tent 1.2m X 0.3m X 0.3M. Cost $99 at the Rosehill
camping show 2 years ago.
