I don't know anything about spotties at all but i would like to get some HID's at a budget price. So if I buy Narva 175 for $110 from ebay, can I fit one of the $100 HID conversion kits to these from ebay. How complicated is it to do so and what is required?
Cheers
Mitch

If you are talking Gas Discharge conversion kit, then
sign me up where can I get them for that price... Last I checked gas discharge conversion kits are still around the $300 buck mark for 1 light...
If its not the same then disregard this and I shall retire back to my bourbon..
Cheers,

This 1/5 the price that I paid and 1/11 the price that Roachie paid.
I can hear him throwing up big time as I write and looking for a razor blade to slash his wrists. (LOL)
Suffer Roachie Suffer. (ROFLMAO)
Back to the serious stuff:
That is an excellent price and would appear by the
pic down the bottom to be a full kit.
Quality is unknown - however you are never going to know unless you have a go.
Fitting -
well its fairly easy as long as it isn't a Toyota where the B a s t u r d s switch the the high beam to a positive earth for some reason on some models.
That cost me a lot of wasted hours and a $100 visit to the Auto Elec.
All in all, for the price I would definitely have a go at them.

I'm with you Lucy,
Hope Roachie reads this and bursts into tears, hehehehehe
Although I have to admit, he did give me a blast of his headlights, in his driveway one evening.... Very impressive !
Cheers Mate

So If I buy the Narva 175's and one of those cheap kits I would need the H3 bulbs in the kit as the Narva 175's take H3 bulbs?) would it be relatively straight forward to hook up to a Navara? Do I have to drill holes in the back of the lights or something?

I have done this to two sets of Narva 175's and they work really
well.
Whether you have to drill holes in the back of the lights depends on the HID globes.
The first set I did the wires came straight out the back of the globe and could not be bent to fit in the plastic housing so I had to take them straight out through the plastic.
The second set the globes had wires coming out of the globes at the back at right angles and no cutting of the Narva was required.
You will need the H3 globes to fit in the 175's and as I fitted
mine to a Pajero I can't help with the Navara but it wouldn't be much more difficult than fitting normal
driving lights.
I had first fitted the 175's as normal lights and then fitted the HID globes later. I mounted the HID ballasts to the inside of the bullbar as the wires from the ballast to the globes are not very long.
As a side note if you plan on doing any water crossings then make sure the HID ballasts are waterproof...Most are splash proof but not many are truly water proof.

Hey Peter thanks for your great reply.
I think I will go with the following HID kit
Site Link
He says the ballasts are completely waterproof. But it looks as if the wires come off the back of the bulbs, so I will be required to drill a hole in the back of the lights? And will this be a prob doing creek crossings eg. will the lights fill up with water?

In my opinion MJC85, i'd go for the 4300k. I got the 6000k and IMHO they are a little too blue. I think the 4300k would be a nice white light. Regards Kirsten

I agree with keepingitreal, go for the 4300K, all of the others are a bit too 'blue' in colour and are actually not as
bright...
The wire on that kit appear to come straight out the back of the globe so you will probably have to cut a hole in the light casing but
check first...
If you do need a hole then you should pay extra attention to sealing the globe where it mounts in the reflector so that water cannot get in.

My vote is for 4300K too. I got 6000K because they say they are white. In my opinion they are slightly blue.

Ok just got the lights, now I got no idea how to wire them up. All you get is a length of wire, some wire connectors and a relay.
Where does the relay go? I would like to wire this myself, but it looks like I might have to get an Auto Elec?

Mitch, I think your onto something mate. I've just been looking for set of HID spotlights and all the ones in Oz were $900+ and even looking overseas your looking at $650+ But as you've pointed out the number of "cheap" conversion kits on e-bay is unbelievable. A lot cheaper to buy a set of normal spotties and then pay less than $200 for the conversion kit. All that for less than half the price of a "genuine" set.
Hopefully this will see Hella and the like drop the price of there's from the rediculous $1000 mark (each)

Just completed the install, didn't have to drill at all. I just cut the bulbs from the harness that they are connected to in the HID kit and extended the bulb wires through the original hole in the Narvas and re-connected. They seem a whole lot brighter than the standard Narva 175's. My brother has some 175's with standard globes so I will get some comparison pictures, definately worth the $160.
