Hi all,
Hope that you had a great
Easter.
I have a GU IV 3ltr TD Nissan Patrol ST - did a salt water
river crossing and when I got to the other side the Troll lost power. It was still running and you could rev the engine (like normal) but as soon as you selected a gear the power (revs) went and the engine went back to idle - in all gears.
Pulled out the Lanotec and gave everything a going over in the engine bay and unplugged the battery to re-set the computer and then everything was peachy. Haven't had this happen before and she loves water (normally) - would hate for that to happen half way over the crossing!
Any thoughts?

Fit a Chev diesel V8 and then you can stop stressing.

G,Day Battlecat Your problem could be a badge problem i.e. a nissan not a toyota. Just joking, probably has got water in one of your sensor plugs which can either send your computer into whats called a safe mode or even your sensor into something similar. best way to combat is remove every plug spray some electroclean into it the place some silicone grease in and re-plug this stops the moisture getting in. Cheers Troopytrek

Will do for sure - just not sure which one as I normally keep all the visible plugs coated in Lanotec. Cheers

If the only difference between this crossing and all the others you have done is that this one was salt and the others were fresh water, then it could have been a short caused by the salt as salt is a conductor and the salt water may have given better conductivity compared to fresh water, hence causing the short.

Hi Sam,
Have hit the salt before but I am unsure which connector would be shorting / so I know which one to Lonotec the shut out of and then seal it. Cheers mate

Could it be the Lanotec?
Lanotec is non conductive. It is a good isolator.
Look at the lanotec web site.
" target="EOF" class="lbg">www.lanotec.com.au/lanotec.php?link=12
Friend did the same thing sparying Lanotec around, and he found it isolated the contacts. Great for freeing parts, and preventing rust, but not good for electrical contacts.
Lanotec have tested it to 70kVa, and recommend cleaning contacts after use.
You need to use a good citric acid cleaner too, it is very hard to get off.
This stuff is definitely not WD40 or similar products.
I use it, and highly recommend it, for the right job :o)

Hi Guys,
Does Lanotec remain wet (tacky) or does it dry after a while?

'but as soon as you selected a gear the power (revs) went and the engine went back to idle - in all gears. '
Is it an auto or manwell?
