The 'improved' version was around October 2001 (ours is early 2002). Check our subtle differences on -

If you ask a lot of people they'll tell you the problems started in 99 when the 3.0l was introduced and havent stopped, hmmmmmmm, I reckon theyre bulletproof from late 02 onwards

Don't do it! I had the same thought last December and bought a GUIII (2002). 17 grand it's cost me in a little over three months....and still counting. New motor, everything! If you are insistent on buying a Nissan, buy as late a model as possible and one still under warranty. I had the D22 Navara before this which had a few issues when going over rough tracks (chassis cracked twice, bullbar disintegrated, Front upper control arm continually worked itself loose and other stuff. Have had four Nissan fourbies in the past and can now officially say "I'm cured".

Hey Paul,
I wouldn't listen to some of the dribble you hear on the forum, I have a series III GU built FEB 02 and have had no problems with it.
It has been everywhere except WA offroad and has put up with a lot of hard use, although it naturally has been serviced "Properly" it's whole life. Just make sure you have yours serviced as per the manual and there shouldn't be a problem.
