Hi all
I have a 80series Turbo Diesel that now has a temp guage that has gone off the scale! It is actually fully vertical and can not be seen unless you look from a great angle.
When I first drive the vehicle the guage is gone, after about 40min's driving the guage comes back to normal. Stop car, start later and the guage is gone again??
Anyone see this before? would it be the sender or the guage itself?
If sender, where is it located? how hard to change?
If Guage, how hard to change?
Thanks Alot.
Bernard.

These guages work on a variable resister....the sender changes the current flow depending on the temp at the guage...it will either be if you remove the sensor wire off the guage should be open circuit and be below zero...ground the wire to
the block and it will show full or max. The variations in temp are between those two.
Now the guage can work the opposite was also....full when disconnected and Zero when grounded.
You first need to find the sensor...Thermostat housing is the first place I would look. Small brass nut with a spade terminal conection coming out of it...
Pull this wire off and with ignition on look at the guage....full or zero? Then ground the wire it should be opposite....Zero or full.
If this doesnt happen the guage is shot (or you dont have right sender) but if it does go from full to Zero or vice-versa then your guage is good and then sender is shot.
There are instances when bad/intermittant supply behind the dash causes guage faults too.
This is just a quick
check to see where to look!!
Goodluck with it Bernard.
Matt.

Thanks Alot, I will
check tonight.
Is the sensor the unit on the right side of the motor (facing windscreen) down rear of block? with a spade connector?
thanks

No Error Lights for Oil pressure, other than that I can't say.
Cruiser running as normal with good power, all oil levels OK (changed regularly).
Coolant levels good....
So the Temp send is on the left side (standing in front of truck) at rear of head?
Thanks for all your reply's.
(note: did not get a chance to look last night...hopefully tonight.)
