Heard a lot of horror stories after biting the bullet & buying a Warn 9000 winch.
Apparently some 1/2 wit can easlely earth the winch after connecting it to your tow ball or someone else's veh & create havoc, my Q. is does any one now of a easy or cost effective way of isolating your winch or veh (preferably with out having to reset your am/fm each time you go to a public car park)?

Cheers Daryl.

A lot of stories but to my knowledge, no photographic evidence to date. I have seen one photo billed as evidence but someone laid claim to it and told a completely different story as to how the damage occured...

Also, a manual isolator under bonnet would sort out most of your fears...

My winch is rated at upto 480A, I haven't seen an isolator with that rating anywhere although they may be available..

Oh yes it can. Just pull out the winch clutch, pull out some cable and hook it to something that does not move like a power pole. Would not be seen at night and gives the driver a real jerk when the cable slack takes up.

Simple really, think to your self how often it is used , and you will then probably use the same type of manual isolator as I do, don't hook it to the battery terminals until it's needed , When I got stuck in the SD Easter 06 it took very little time to connect the cables to the battery ,

Now is the only time you own
Decide now what you will,
Place faith not in tomorrow
For the clock may then be still

Hi Daryl

Just put a small relay on the small earth wire and have it set up on ignition so it only works when the key is on, quick, cheap and simple.

Have fun

The relay works well and you always have access to your winch when you need it.

I could be wrong but when I've been playing around with mone, I thought it was a double pole switch which means its not as simple as a paper clip.
