During our CSR trip last year my monitor bracket was reduced to rubbish (due to the corrugations etc) . Question - Does anyone know of a Heavy Duty bracket to mount these monitors on - mine is 7 inch Lilliput touch screen - worked fantastic except for the bloody bracket. I have seen some advertised on ebay and actually brought one fron USA & yes you only get what you pay for - it was as flimsy as the one supplied by the outlet in bayswater where I originally purchased the whole setup from.
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Mike

I cant survive without mine, I take it everywhere, even overseas holidays where I dont have basemaps just so I have it in case. These things are THE replacement for paper maps and compasses, just wait and see

Its all about economics for me.
There are close to 514 1:250K topo maps in the NATMAP series covering Australia (Including Tassie). Each map in paper form costs $9.25. To purchase all 514 would cost me $4754.50.

I purchased NATMAP Raster Premium for $120.
I purchased a PDA/GPS for $850 (including mounts, cables, chargers etc)
I puchased OziExplorer for $130.

That means I'm still way out in front by about $3654. Boy have I got some stuff still to buy.
That was part of the justification I presented to the Minister for Finance and it worked!! The other part was the ability to do my own navigation so the honourable Minister could read books and generally chill out on trips.

God help me if the GPS goes bung or they switch off the Satellites.
LOL!!! I must admit I still like to habe critical paper maps.

Mate - you are gonna spend a lot of time driving to use all those maps.
When I do my sums I deduct all the roads where there are big green signs telling you where to go (that includes the GRR and Gulf Road) and reckon i can pay for the paper maps as I go.

But then - they are fun!!!!!!!!

Hi Mike,

Seems most of these monitors have similar poor mounts. I purchased an 8inch screen from the same location and the first thing I did was to throw away the supplied bracket and arrange another more substantial one. It is possible to make your own, is not difficult but you need handyman skills and some patience. If you utilise the screws that secure the back plate of the screen you can manufacture some extensions incorporating those screw mounts and this provides a very firm and stable basis for a solid mounting bracket. Different screen versions will probably require a slightly different approach, but there is generally a way around it.

Hope this gives you some ideas to pursue, if you want specific details on my unit:-

Hi Mike

I have used RAM mounts and they are very strong. There are many types and you should be able to get one that suits. There are distributors in most states. Try Googling RAM Mounts and you will get all the info you need.
