Hi
We intend to travel by 4wd bushcamper from
Darwin to the Kimberleys and back - starting mid of May 07. Any
information about more rain and more flooding in 07 than in earlier times? do we have chance, to see roads open?
Thanks for any feedbacks - greetings from Switzerland.
Martin

Hi Martin
I can't help you with the weather. Are you hiring the bushcamper = Landcruiser troopcarrier?. If so take your own tools!. They are great vehicles but don't come equiped from britts etc, with all the "bits and pieces" you really need for serious off roading. Carry plenty of water, buy yourself a
UHF radio,5 watt, handheld is ok. These are great for short distance communications, the trucks use channel 40 and it is a good idea to talk to them if you are going to overtake or they are overtaking you.
If traveling to very remote
places, hire a
HF radio, this will allow you to call for medical help etc should you need it. LEARN HOW TO USE IT BEFORE YOU TRAVEL.
Enjoy your trip, the Kimbery is truely a wonderfull place. Oh, and please don't try to swim with our Crocodiles!!
Regards Lyndon

Cheers back to Switzerland Martin ! - Anne from
Drysdale River Station [ www.drysdaleriver.com.au ] has some info on her site re what you could expect on roads and weather - what will actually happen when you arrive is anyone's guess - for travel up there in May it should be reasonably safe IMO, but an alternative travel plan is not a bad idea, seeing you will be coming so far !

G'day
I did
Darwin &
Kimberley in May/June last year. You should find all roads open from May onwards - but local flooding can still happen anytime and some 4wd only tracks may be closed.
Just
check in with local govenment and tourism offices as you travel for the latest
information.
