Hi all,
We are currently decking out the '75 Troopie for touring, and have a 60l trailblazer. We were thinking of getting a black widow heavy duty fridge slide - but they are over $400. Then I read an old post where someone (Baz?) said you could buy kilo rated slides from Mermaid Distributors, some ply, and make your own for under $100. Has anyone else tried this? how did it work? Success etc.
Any feedback appreciated. Cheers. Ed

Got a pair of quite rubust slides for $18 the pair - some el cheapo place here in SA.
Folded an ally tray on an industrial folder. Mounted it to a rear false floor (ply) with heavy pop rivets an some angled ally section - made a catch for it. Has been a winner - bit less than $100 overall. I have a 60L Waeco and when full of tucker, my rig would be on the edge I think. With a big fridge full of heavy goodies, a quality lifetime HD slide system would not be a waste of money IMO - I always close
mine when not in use - I wouldn't trust it to stay extended - the pro jobs are often very HD and could stay out all day it seems - but they are a lot heavier than
mine ! Flip a coin and go with it :-o) !

Ed,
Have a look at my pic's. I made my own with some roller slides from galvins in
perth that are rated too 100kg. Then tigged up some ally angle, painted it and put it all together. I have a 60lt eva kool and it works a treat.

Look very professional, much better than i could do! Anything i would make would fall apart. I just have to settle for paying a fortune for all my gadgets.

I used some slides from rack mounted computer servers, a bit of aluminium angle and mdf, been working fine for the last 5 years. Only issue is the sand getting into the slides (runs on ball bearings) - might have to get the slide off the next server that is replaced.
Cheers

I went to a cabinetmakers hardware store here in
Perth and got a set of slides (900mm they were available in a variety of sizes up to 1100mm) for $100 and there rated at 100kg really solid stuff

A length of angle heaps of measuring a little cutting a tad of welding a bit of drilling a hand full of bolts and nylon nuts and a visit to CBC bearings for a handfull of rolla bearings a spring loaded bolt and a lick of paint ....just take a look at what Engle makes they are very simple yet do work.

Ed,
Soundls like it might have been me, 'cos I bought my Hettich rollers from Mermaid Distributors. But they have gone broke here on the
Gold Coast, although Hettich sell nation wide from other resellers. Ours is rated at 100kgs at 900mm extension. As you are aware, Trailblaza's a pretty heavy, (Ours is a 70L)... our slide is 4 years old and still going strong!!!! Even held the fridge in place when SWMBO parked the truck upside down!
Cheers
