Was the laptop set up for you by the retailer or did you have to go through the process of setting it up to customise it to suit your name etc.
If the retailer set it up for you they should have given you the password. I assume the password you are looking is the one that you put in to get into Windows ?
If thats the case there is a chance you can bypass it, but would need to know more.
If you MM me, I will give you if I can talk you through it.

Used to manage a HN Superstore for 15 months.
Was disgusted at the way they treated their customers and the contempt that they had for them.
Went out on my own for 9 years and could beat them everytime on prices let alone service, trouble is you cant beat the finance deals they have and thats why they prosper cause they suck everyone in with glossy advertising and finance deals.
Guess someone has to pay for all that.

G'day Steve and Denny
We are mosey-ing along. Always busy. Just getting over the
Peterborough Art Prize and Festival.
Judith and friends are going on a painters week in to the Flinders at the end of the month and I am providing logistical support. Should get some time off to go exploring....lol
Cheers

It has been my seperience with a new machine that just pressing enter when it asks for the password sometimes works, that is unless someone has actually specified a particular password.
Worth a try IMHO.
Cheers

mine was like that, even asked for the blank password after awhile again... then one day I figured there must be a way to turn it off, and there was. Only took me a couple of years to get around to it :)

I would love to know how to stop that password request. I like to turn the machine on and wlak away while it loads but presently I return to the log in request.

The idea of machine or boot up passwords is that if a laptop is stolen the stealee (thief?) can't use the laptop or sell it, or until a if genuine owner can provide bona fides.
Consequently it is very unlikely, and rather slack of if they do, anyone will assist you with a default password or method of circumventing the pasword requirement on an open
forum such as Expolroz.
So sorry.

Steve,
you should usually be able to log on as administrator - the full word lower case. Don't think
mine had a password, but was either a router or the laptop recently had the password the same to start. Don't usually have to give advice from greater NY. Have fun mate.
