G'day all,

I am a new member who has just purchased a 5 seater 75 troopy for a trip to Cape York in July.
My wife and I are moving to Thursday Island for 18 months and plan to leave the Troopy at Sesia so we can travel back for weekend adventures.

I have been looking through the archives and have found a few mentions of "Waynes" rear bar / wheel carrier.

I cannot view the photos.

Wayne, if you are out there could you please repost them, or is there another way I can see them.

I would be more than grateful if anybody posts any photos of homemeade mods to Troopy's.

I am putting a fair bit of store bought gear on the vehicle along with the extras it already has.
Current:
Ally rack (will probably need to be modified to suit roof top tent/gas bottle etc)
TJM steel winch bar
TJM steel brush bars
Dual Batts
Rear drawers (interior accessories)
80L Waeco fridge/freezer
ARB nitrocharger shocks

On the way:
ARB air lockers, front and rear
Ironman 12000lb winch
ARB Simpson II roof top tent with awning
GPS (Magellan Explorist Excel traveller pack)
New tryes
Suspension upgrade

I am not 100% set on the brands of the gear I am going to put on except for the lockers and rooftop tent.
Tyres and suspension are still up in the area.

If anyone has any info, tips or suggestions on anything regarding Troopy's or Cape York please feel free to throw them at me.

Cheers, Jack

I found from TJM that a Warn 12,000 lb winch will not fit a TJM steel winch bar. I don't know if the Ironman winch is different - worth checking.

Thanks mate,

I will check with Tyrepower (the Ironman dealer in Townsville) before I go ahead.

GDay, We put the Kaymar twin wheel carrier on our RV Troopy, not cheap but absolutely AWESOME . At the end of 2005 we travelled for three and a half months through Gulf Track , Gibb River Road , Cape Levique, and Back through the centre to Queensland . Cheers

Thanks Troopytrek,

I am sure the Kaymar and other rear bar / wheel carriers are good but I am running out of money.
I am up to about $10k of add ons at the moment.
Worst case I can have one spare on the rear door and one on the rack so if I am to skip an add on, it will be the swing out wheel carriers.
I want to avoid putting weight on the roof because the troopy's are so tall and I will have a roof top tent up there, but if that is how it has to be then so be it.

Hopefully I can come up with a way to save a few dollars.

Cheers, Jack

Jack,
If you are keeping the split rim tyres then there is a kit out there(we have it on some of our defence force troopys) that allows you to put two splits on the back door. It dosent seem to affect the back door at all, am not sure if there is any long term issues with the weight on the door though.

Matt,

The Troopy has 16x7 sunnies with a split rim as the spare.
I plan to purchase two more same size sunnies as spares.
