Hi all, My husband and I are planning on retiring and buying a caravan in the next year or so. It seems like the best way to spend the kids inheritance that we could possibly think of hehe.
We are wondering if current owners of a geist could give us some insight into the world of the geist.
We are looking for things such as
1) repair costs for both accidents and mechanicals (including avalibaility of
services due to there only being a few dealers around oz)
2) how it holds up to aussie roads
3) any bad purchasing experiences??? ie with getting equipped with the accessories and extras that you want.
Thanks for anything you can offer

I was speaking to a repairer about a month ago with repairing a windsor and he said no problems getting bits then in the next breath said he wont touch Geist as they are very dear for spares and the moulded body bits are a pain but I must admit they do look great and seem
well built , why dont you just call some repairers with some bogus problems and that should give you an idea if they are high cost repairs ??
just a thought Regards J.b.

I've always had the impression that these European made vans are OK for Europe but may not be up to it here in Oz.
Longer journeys, odd bits of bad roads, dirt roads, dust etc.
Mind you, they can't do much worse than some of the current Aussie van makers that have a terrible rep for quailty control.

Yes buy an Aussie Van, The european type vans may not stand up to our roads.
You will be told that they will but for how long?

Hi, as a Geist 485 owner I am unable to answer you specific questions. However, I can tell you both my wife and I love the van. We tow with a 3lt Subaru Outback ( a bit thirsty at an average of 17litres per 100k at 90kl. There is some items in the van which will be expensive to replace however so are German vehicles (BMW & Mercs) The van is towable with a min of 25 kg on the tow ball and tows very
well. even with over ride breaks the van is far superior to similar size vans. I personaly waited for a second hand van and was lucky to pick one up from the SA dealer. I don't think I would have bought at the new price.
