Does anyone who has an Outback portable battery have the charger installed in their car? We just bought one and had the charger installed but it doesn't seem to be working and I am wondering if it has been done correctly. The company - Blue Apple Electronics - is not being very helpful. I would appreciate contact from anyone who has installed a charger in their car.

Yeah, I've got one. The little box goes under the bonnet and the lead with the outlet to wherever in the car you want it.
Mine is in the back on the drivers side. I can fax or email the instructions if you want, or I can rewrite it all on here (it will be long). You can call Waeco on 0885368200 or fax them on 0885368211. Seeya, Roscoe.

Thanks Roscoe - we have had it installed by an auto electrician as you describe but it doesn't seem to be working. Do you have the switch up or down on yours? Could you please email me the instructions at paul.irish@bigpond.com? That would be great - thank you!

I have one installed as
well and havnt had any problems (touch wood)
With the switch should be up it will charge with the engine running and isolate it when the egine is off
Switch down will run fridge/outback with/or without engine running.
Other then that , the only other data I have, that you could check is:
Black wire is to the body (earth)
Long 5mm wire to battery positive red
red wire from the cig socket is to be connected to the blue joiner
remaining red wire to be connected to the fuse box.
I recommend checking the switch is UP (if you have tried charging with the car off), and/or try running another 12v appliance directly off the socket just to see if that works and its not the outback.
Hope that helps

I have installed same & no problems.
You may have resolved the problem by now, ideas anyway.
1. Do you have 12vdc at outlet plug? (motor running). If you do then no problem.
2. If not, check fuse on charge unit from battery & fuse on control supply. If you find fuses blown, check polarity on all cables from outlet. I have found "new" cables incorrectly wired.
3. If all seems fine that work your way from battery to outlet with dc volt meter.
4. If all appears o/k, you may have faulty unit.
If you cannot carry out the above you need a friendly sparky.
Best of luck.
