Hi, My name is Karen and i have just acquired a campervan and 4x4.
I am looking for some camp sites 1hour to 1.1/2 our of Brisbane. As winter is looming somewhere inland that allows open fires. I have been told about a place called Big Riggin but have no idea where it is and how to contact them.
Please help
Thanks
Karen

I think BogRiggin(?) is near Mt Barney in the south - east - Mt Barney National Park - near Rathdowney - there are a number of spots in that area, and in the Main Range area as well - down off the Cunningham Highway from Ipswich.
Happy camping - you need to get yourself a Hema Road Atlas - they show heaps of campspots.

There's Bigriggen near Rathdowney www.bigriggen.com.au/ We were there last year and there was enough water in the creek for our (young) kids to much about on boogie boards and inflatable tubes.

We also like Levuka www.levuka.com.au/ which is down past Woodenbong in northern NSW.

Both Bigriggen and Levuka allow open fires. Levuka provides wood (I don't remember about Bigriggen - I think you could collect what had fallen from trees). Levuka has 4WD tracks, Bigriggen doesn't have any 4WD tracks, but the creek was a hit with our kids.

Hi Karen - these may be what you are after - some close, some a bit further : (I have included the basic directions to get to each).
On of the best is Charlie Morland at Kenilworth. Site Link
1. Levuka - Mt Lindsay highway - over NSW border - Woodenbong - Urbenville. Website - www.levuka.com.au/ -a bit expensive.
2. Around Beaudesert they have some nice small parks: Click this link then click - download camp sites : http://www.bsc.qld.gov.au/shire_information/tourism/#camping
2.1 Flanagan's Reserve - Beaudesert - Rathdowney - Mt barney - Flanagans.
Website : www.flanaganreserve.com.au/
2.2 Andrew Drynan Park - Beaudesert - Rathdowney - Lyons Road.
2.3 Sharp Park - Cunnungra
2.4 Darlington park - Beaudesert - Kerry - Logan river
2.5 Stinson Park Christmas Creek-
2.6 Bigriggen is a private campground at the base of Mt Barney. Get there from Beaudesert then Rathdowney. www.bigriggen.com.au/
3. Paradise Valley - very nice - Beaudesert - Lyons Rd - 8klms over NSW border.
4. Peach Trees - very good (in Jimna Forest). Caboolture - Kilcoy - Jimna.
5. Clarence River Wilderness - the best - www.clarenceriver.com/
6. Iron Pot Creek NSW - a must - Site Link
7. Sundown National park - Via Warwick, Teneterfield towards Texas.
8. Lemon Flat campgorund -Kwiambal NP - McIntyre/Severn River + caves (north of Ashford NSW).
9. Double Island Point (while we still can) - beach camping - Coroy - Tewantin - ferry over Noosa river - onto beach.
10. Goomburra - 4 campgrounds - try them all, but for young family Goomburra Valley has the best facilities and is safest. Warwick highway - Cunninghams Gap - Gladfield - Goomburra.
11. Koreelah National park - secluded. Ipswich - Boonah - Falls road - White swamp Rd.
12 Lake Murphy Conservation park. Miles - Taroom - Robinson Creek.
13 Expedition National park - a few hours on from Lake Murphy.
14. Lake Somerset - big area but can be a bit crowded. 2 campgrounds.
15. Wilga bush camp - Lake Broadwater Conservation Park - Dalby.

Note - some you have to book on-line. Some are honesty regn at the site......Keith

Keith - you are a wealth of knowledge in that area - my daughter and her family live at Kalbar - and we hope to be moving to Aratula within two years - so we will be looking for new places to explore not too far from there - all of these places sound like our cup of tea - thanks for the info - will be printing it out and storing in our map bag - are these places all marked on a specific map - from Nat Parks or something?
You sure have given Karen some stuff to go on with.

Hi Karen / Jules - have you bought the Australia Wide Camps4 book yet?
This is the bible for campsites Australia wide. Costs aprox $50 but worth every cent.
The aim is to list every camp location that is either free, or under $20 per night.
So - all the road side stops, National Parks, Forestry areas, plus van parks with reasonable rates.
The book is available from most camping stores, book stores, and Tourist info desks.
If you are near Kalbar, you have close access to many simply brilliant camping areas.
The whole of the NSW/Qld border has many of the best sites you can find.
Plus, a short drive up Cunninghams gap leads you to Goomburra.
If you would like more detailed directions, drop me an email when you are settled. klladams at optusnet dot com dot au......................Keith
