We intend to drive the Strezlecki track and spend 3 or 4 nights at Innaminka, do we have to have a desert park permit to do this. We're not going into the Simpson or anywhere else in the parks. If we do need it, it makes camping very dear.
Thanks, Geoff

Camping at
Innamincka Common doesnt require a pass, but costs you about $7 a night, from memory via an honesty box that goes to the local development association. You can
camp at the other sites in the park, but it costs you $15 a night, as
well as $7.50 vehicle access.
The Desert Parks Pass is good value and goes to the maintenance of the parks, so I personally am very happy to pay it. You get 3 maps and a book of info as
well, and you are then free to go anywhere you like including
Coongie Lakes.

I have the booklet and maps from a previous trip in 2003. We will only be in the park for a very brief time and while I don't mind paying for the privilege $95 is a bit steep for 3 nights.
Thanks, Geoff

You don't need it for Innaminka, and if you want to enter the park to go to the lakes or
water hole you can buy a cheaper day pass from the store.

It is about 110km from the
intersection of the Strez and the Merty Merty Rd to
Cameron Corner. About 1.5 hour drive.
Whilst I whole heartedly agree with the point you make about it being a great place to visit, not even I would call it a slight detour. Although you cold then travel to
Innamincka up the
Bore Track which is a very nice drive.
If you need a
camp between
Lyndhurst and
Innamincka I would recommend Monte Colina
Bore. It is about half way up the track and is a lovely little stop. If you leave
Lyndhurst at a normal start time it is more likely to be a lunch or late morining tea stop though.
