Hello all,

A friend of mine has the option to purchase a Landcruiser TD Auto July 1992 with only (Believe it or not), 140k on the clock.

The seller is going back to England and was considering taking it with him, if he doesn't get the 'right' price for it over here.
However, it turns out that (the seller), his son in England has purchased a newer model for him for when he arrives....

Now, the seller has told my friend that the transportation cost to the UK is around the $4,000 mark. I told him that sounds about right, so he (the seller), might be telling the truth about the rest.

So the question is this: What would the going price be for this car, What would you offer?

Also, are there any inherent faults or things to look out for on a test drive?

Cheers,
Alan.

Try www.redbook.com.au

I would say worth probably around the $9,000 mark retail.

Cheers

If its a 92 genuine factory turbo, its in the right year range for the ones that had the problem with the crankshaft bearings.

I would either be asking for proof that they have been fixed or be prepared to shell out about $400/500 to have them replaced.

Toyota were at one stage replacing them under warranty, but that was a long time ago. I believe there is a number that you can call at Toyota (dont know what it is) and give them the VIN number of the vehicle and they will be able to confirm if the bearings were replaced as part of Toyotas fix.

Keep in mind that they may also have been done privately and not through Toyota.

I think the auto box on them is OK, unlike the manual that has a few problems when they get a few K's on them.

I have had 2 x 80 series and generally they have been fine. No real problems at all.

As for the price, ???

Depends on a lot of things, condition of vehicle, number of kilometres, etc etc.

I just recently traded my 94 cruiser with aftermarket turbo, 228,000 K, bullbar, towbar etc for $14000 and conciderd that to be an excellent trade price, however I see on some sites where people are trying to sell their 80 cruiser for as much as $24500 (http://www.exploroz.com/Trader/Vehicles.aspx?id=3573)

Best look on some of the online car sales or www.redbook.com.au and see what prices similar vehilces are selling for.

Try and find one in Brisbane in a car yard is like trying to find hens teeth ,never mind the "red book" price as the factory turbo in auto was a rare and expensive beast when new [$73k] compared to the more common manual , as for the so called bearing issue it was only on a specific batch /vin and if after 15yrs it hasn't been done it never will cause the problem , if klm is true and the vehicle is in the appropriate condition for that mileage most car yards would have it for $24 / $29k retail.

$24 -$29K is too much for it.. ( $29k is more like the price for the multi valve)

Even if mickey mouse condition it is still the early 15" wheel version and you would be pushing to get it to $18000..

The K's are good for the car though.. you could expect heaps of life to be left in the car at that rate if they are in fact genuine k's, then the issue of service history as a badly serviced car will fail at 150k if not looked after properly where another will go for 500k + if done right..

Seeing that they don't want to spend the $4000 to transport and that it is valued at max $18k (probably more like $8000 as a trade in value) I would offer them about $12k and see what they say... if they go for it then I would say you have a good car at a good price..

Cheers

Thanks Guys and Gals,

I spoke to my friend and pointed him to this great web forum of which he knew nothing about.
So he told me that after a bit of browsing around on this forum, it's now in his favorites!

The price for this Landcrusier, the seller was asking for $25,000.

So all in all that seems to be about the going price - Redbook not withstanding....

Once again, good advise and a great forum.

Hi Alan,

I am a specialist 4wd broker my business sources 4wds for clients from Brisbane Wholesalers and Dealer Auctions
This vehicle has a value on paper of around $13000
120,000 klms is very low, a visible inspection would be necessary to guarantee that this is a correct reading
