Alloy, I would just
check that the old ones have the Australian standard on them. Not sure exactly what it is but you can't use non standard ones for fuel in some states if not all. Otherwise if they look ok apart from the paint which you will scratch off anyway, they could be a good buy.

WW2 genuine article ,have doubts that there was such a thing as an Aust standard in 1942 especialy as they are German.

I only buy the plastic ones now as the last time I used two metal ones , they both cracked and my diesel ended up in the ground .

Alloy, I was thinking that maybe they have retested them and given them a standard. It was really good of you to point the obvious out to me and I am sure that it made you feel really smart! If you don't want people to reply to your posts then keep going the way you did.

draff ,or is that daft ? please explain how one would go about "retesting" a jerry can that is 60 odd yrs old to get an Aust standard sticker , for that matter perhaps you can enlighten us all in the individual testing proceedure of a jerry can ??

It is Draff, I would not have a clue about the testing of jerry cans, but I think the standard I was first talking about is that they must have a locking pin. The reason I first wrote this was that when we were buying jerry cans we found that in one of the states we were planning on travelling in you could only carry jerry cans with this standard.
