Planning another big one out west next year.

Looking at access to Cable Haul Road via Emu Point and north to Plumridge Lakes.

Does anyone have any info on these tracks?

Cheers

Hi Willem,
We've been through Plumridge Lakes twice now, and as Davoe says, when we met up with him in Nov 2005, Cable Haul Rd was a very easy run. It had been graded to get trucks in for mining exploration. Haven't been via Emu Point - usually take the Rawlinna to Cocklebiddy Rd, but if its similar, it is also an easy run.

Westprint Maps is the only good source of info I found on Plumridge Lakes. They produce a "Maps on Demand" for the area that has good info as well as a map. They just print it off on an inkjet printer. Its full of old sandlewood cutters camps.

The road north to Lake Rason is pretty interesting too. We've done that run through to Laverton a couple of times - Need to climb over a dune to see the Lake - was a great sight - full of water in 2003. The side road to Mallee Hens Rocks - theres a rock pool there with initials FH there - believed to be Frank Hann who originally explored the area.

Cheers

Ooooh, Willem and Phil G - this looks like a good trip. Wonder if the house building will be finished by then? Hmmmm.

Willem,
The westprint CD may not have much detail for plumridge. I'll look tonight at home, compare it with their paper map and email you.

Cheers

Yeah Ruth, Interesting country - nothing spectacular, but very pleasant camping, and not commonly visited. No permits required. And the mining ruins around Burtsville and the Burtsville Cemetary are worth exploring. Some interesting breakaways at Mallee Hens Rocks. And Lake Rason is worth a look. We camped at some of the Sandlewood Cutters Camps in the area. Still piles of sandlewood scraps lying around. Laverton is a good town to restock, and get a pub meal.

Cheers
Phil
