Anyone got any long term reports on sunroofs/moonroofs in their cars?
i am looking into it as an option if I get new Prado?
Just wondering if they create any extra cabin noise or will eventually leak or whatever?
cheers

Our 98 Prado Grande has the factory sunroof and we can't fault it, even though it's 9 years old. A wind deflector pops up when we slide it back so we can cruise at 100km/hr with it open without blowing the kids out of the seats. The noise isn't too bad, you can still have a conversation. Had it open last weekend when driving in the high country and kids love being able to see the huge trees through the roof. I hope my next vehicle has one.
Mark.

GDay Andrew Your request re sunroofs. Yes we have had 2 cars with sunroofs. The first was an 86 Fairlaine that I have only got rid of recently. All those years no problems. The current car is a 99 Patrol ST with factory Sunroof again no problems. I think it is a good idea to
test drive a car with sunroof open on a hot day. We only use ours in the cooler months because it is simly too hot. Even wth the tinted glass roof closed and the blind below it open it is still hot. They were first introduced here on European cars like Jaguar where it is a lot cooler and they are desperate for some / any sun. They are also very expensive and I dont think I would get another one. Your Call

Hi Andrew, I have has a 120 Prado for 3 1/2 years and 150kms. It was a GXL and the roof was supplied by Prestige here in
Melbourne. It was fantastic.
I pick up my new 120 (new D4d) tomorrow and the first option that I put on the order was for a sunroof the same! It is fantastic on days when the sun is
bright and the weather cool. Some will say it's like that here all the time.
There was no downside ( apart from the cost). I had the Toyota triple roof racks on the roof and when the roof was open you could hear the noise from the front rack which meant that I took the front bar off rather than put up with the wind noise, but that was caused by the rack and not the roof.
Go for it I say!!

Gday again Andrew. Viv is picking up his new wheels with new sunroof. He is in Victoria where it is a fair bit cooler for a lot longer than here [ Lake Macquarie near
Newcastle NSW.] but about the same latitude as
Perth. He agrees the downside is the cost but some of the top of the range 4wd come as standard eg. TI patrol and Prado Grande. I dont know about the top of the range cruiser. Try it for yourself before you buy. I dont know if it adds anything to the resale value but it would not to
mine because I buy them new and drive them to extingshion.
