Brother in law has a DTronic in his and it goes well. Mine was standard and his always out performed mine both in towing ability and slightly better fuel economy. Of course if you shove the boot in it would probably go the other way as far as fuel consumption is concerned.

Thanks Notso
Have spent some time on the net and ringing around and think I will go the Dpchip
as it has 5 settings so one of them is bound to suit my needs.
Thanks for your reply

Hi Ross.
I fitted a Dtronic unit to my Pajero. It is easy to fit, just plugs into main unit.
It really made a difference to the performance & is great for towing.
I am heading out to Camerons Corner in July & will see how the fuel consumption goes with the camper in tow.

not sure about the nissan but did fit a d-tronic to a 100 series turbo diesal today.
i was very impressed with the diference heaps more power.
i asked the boss today why this guy bought a d-tronic and he said when he was in a cpl of weeks ago to get a spare wheel carier he borowed the bosses 100 series to drop his boat some where.when he got back he said to the boss geez what have you done to your cruiser it flies.
i fitted a d-tronic he said.
best you get me one of them things the customer said lol.
we put one in a 3ltr navara a cpl of weeks ago and same thing big diference.
so i cant see why the patrol shouldnt gain from one either.
cheers

Ross i put a dtronic on a 2001 3.0 L which was slug - what a bloody improvement bottom end so much better - took it off when i traded in th earlier patrol and put it on my newer 2004 3.0 L demo model unit - still an improvement but not as obvious as the newer truck which had a better bottom end performance than the earlier one -- on a 2002 if its a bit of a slug it will make a real difference at the bottom end much better get up and go - for me the best $ 1500 i have spent on my trucks
my best greg

I cant understand why Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and every other turbo deisel manufacturer do fit these things as standard. More power, more torque, better fuel consumption etc etc.

Am I missing something? Perhaps all the improvements relate to towing and reduced engine life.

Sorry to be controversial!, but I need enlightenment......

The Dtronic simply overrides the standard fuel settings, etc in the ECU. Manufacturers would have to setup the mapping that would be provided by a Dtronic type device into the ECU at manufacture which probably means more cost. All they want to roll out is the bare minimum. Thats why we all ahve to replace the suspension and tyres to make them more off road capable as well.

I've had one in my 95 series Prado for 4 years and done over 70,000 km since with a lot of caravan towing. I guess I'll have to wait and see if the engine life is reduced, all seems ok so far.

Hi Ross,

I installled a Steinbauer into my 3.0ltr Patrol.

It goes like a rocket in comparison to original.

Main difference in torque a 1500rpm, and the turbo lag has gone.

I would highly recomend.

Thanks

Thanks Tony
Fitted the dp chip this afternoon and like you have said there is no lag at all and boy does it pull. Found myself in heave traffic this arvo on the way home and was in third gear along at 1500 rpm and it just pulls without and lag or labouring. It has settings from 1 to 10 with 10 having the most poke and have only got it set on 5. Will let you all know how it goes while towing the camper as this should give a bit more of an accurate indication as to the chips real performance.
Thanks for everones advice and help
Regards ross
