Hi Everyone.
My 18 yo son had his beloved HiLux stolen and rolled at Christmas. He has found a 92 Cruiser Ute and as he has got his Insurance cheque he just wants this ute. It seems to be in pretty good nick exxcept for a bit of rust in one door which the dealer assures will be fixed. Ute has 268K on it and independant mechanic has advised its OK.
Problem is Dealer wants $14800 for it and RedBook says max of $11000. Am flat out holding this kid back at present.
What do others think? Is this a decent price or over inflated. Dealer reckons the red book is only a guide, yeh until they price a trade in.
Cheers

Howard.

Hi Howard

I was the same at that age, I saw it and I wanted it yesterday.

What my old man did was he went out and found a better car at a better price, then took me to show me, I'm sure now that I save a lot of money.

Tell the young fella in Darwin you can get a 95/6 model for under 10k and that's a Diesel as well.

Cheers Steve.

I can sympathize with you, my son bought two vehicles that he had to have at around that stage. They didn't last long. Now he's 25 he's starting to listen to me, and his last purchase was what he wanted but at my price :)))

Hi Howard
my opinion only but i think it is about 5-6000 to dear, daughters boy freind just picked up cruiser ute with steel tray back for $9,500.00 only extra was bull bar and had 290,000 km's on the clock. i think his was about a 95 model but it was in good conditioning with no rust and tidy interior.

G' day Howard, yes the Redbook is only a guide, the NRMA use it for that as well. Did the $11000 appear under the "w" or " R" in the red book? W meaning wholesale value and R = retail value.? Has your son checked the local papers, internet etc for other bargains? I t can work out much cheaper buying from a private buyer as some people may be very keen to talk a better deal due to their personal situations? Cheers Unc.

A car salesman who makes assurances? Thats a good one. Never never take a salesman's word for anything.

Sorry, didnt mean to offend. I keep my mouth shut in future. I should have said never take anyones word for anything when there is a transaction going on. Some mean what they say but when it comes to the fact you want to see the work done before parting with the money

No offence taken, I only asked because there are very few occupations that aren't either directly or indirectly reliant on sales, especially the biggest critics of sales personnel ..... TRADIES!
As far as I'm if a tradesman hasn't got any tools in his hands, he will be selling his ability to do jobs, or relying on someone else to do it.

Edit for above: Last sentence should read .....

As far as I'm concerned, if a tradesman hasn't got any tools in his hands, he will be selling his ability to do jobs, or relying on someone else to do it.

Just make sure there is enough cab room for your son. The pre-1999 cab-chassis cruisers were very squeezy
