Can I get more power from the Troopy? ( 78 TD)
Towing a van now (3t).
Should I chip and do the exhuast?
Chipping (DPchip) should go to from 122kw to 140kw and 360 to 450nm. $1220
Anyone done any of this. Is it a waste of money? Should I save up for the new V8?
Cheers
John

the new engine onl puts out 151kw and 430nm of torque. IMO i dont think it is worth the upgrade, and it is the first engine, so there will be teething problems for sure. The donk you already have is sufficient, but like everyone more power is always wanted. With my nissan, teh exhaust was the best upgrade i have done. power for money wise. it will be the same with the toyota i am sure. the chip is also a good idea. I believe if you do both and you are still not happy you should look at buying a ferrari to tow the caravan, he he LOL.
Let me know how you go mate.

Hi John
I have a 78 TD 2004 mod Troopy, have a D'tronic. Very happy with the extra performance, no overheating problems even in 40c towing up steep hills.
Any questions just drop me a line.

You could also have LPG injection installed. More power, better economy and fewer emisions (not that many four wheel drivers care too much about that). It costs a lot more than a chip though. Depends how long you plan to keep the vehicle of course. The more power you have though the more you want. That's why I'm still driving a normally asthmatic 2H diesel troopy. But then again I'm not towing a 3 tonne van. Imagine what a few modifications could extract from the new V8s.
