I am looking for standard size tyres for an XL7. Tyre size is a 235/60R/16. I am told that this is an unusual size tyre.

The Maxxis tyre at $180/tyre seems to be a good buy? What do people run on their XL7? Not looking at doing a lift at the moment.

How do you find the MAxxis tyre both on and off road?

The car will mainly be travelling on the highway and will encounter snow/ice in the winter. Also, I am looking at doing some beach driving and forest/fire trail driving.

No experience with the Maxxis but yes, the XL7's tyres are an unusual size. With your requirements - ice/snow, sand, firetrails - you need AT tyres. I had Yokohama Geolandar II's and they were OK, actually rather good in the mud, but noisy and not very durable. I have replaced them with Bridgestone D694s but too soon to tell whether or not they're an improvement. They're quieter alright!

Cheers mate. I think I will steer clear of the Yokohama's, especially at the prices I have been quoted.

Phillip

I know your pain ! I had an old RAV 4 and everytime you gave a tyre place the size, they knew it was for a RAV - seemed to be the only car that took that size, and had to pay handsomely for the privilege of limited choice.

Have put Maxxis on my Prado (751's i think, but the AT version anyway), and have no problems. Have been on for about 6 months, seem to be wearing ok, not too noisy, and good in sand, gravel, and on highway - not much snow / ice in WA so can't comment!

Good Luck

RD

Thanks RD. I have never used Maxxis before, so knowing that you haven't had a problem with yours helps.

In the same boat at the moment.
Just got 45k out of the original Bridgstones but now need replacing. Will get a lift when the warranty expires in a few months but need the tyres now to stay safe not to mention legal.
North Brisbane Suzuki Club is a great site for all zook stuff so look here.

My understanding is that you can just get away with something like BFG 225/70/R16 which can be fitted without any rubbing (just).
Any larger will require lift & possible some cutting of plastic guards etc.
Anyway I have decided to go with the BFG's mentioned above.
