Manual 2006 3.0l Patrol question?

A question for other owners of the same vehicle.
At idle if I depress the clutch repeatedly (quick succession) more resistance is felt on the 2nd depress and the 3rd & 4th depress become quite firm. I was wondering if this is indicating that the vacuum system isn’t quite up to scratch.
The system appears to hold vacuum OK as the clutch can be depressed normally (once only) before starting the vehicle after it has sat overnight.
Wondering if this is normal amongst the newer models? I don’t recall it happening with my previous Patrol. (2000)

the vacuum pump can only take so much, why are you pumping the clutch so much? it is working .if you repeatedly pump the clutch at idle it will firm up. assuming your 3 litre is diesel, diesels dont produce much vacuum, hence the booster. just accept it.

The clutch is hydraulic....what do you expect to happen. The brake pedal will do the same but not to such an extent because it recieves more vacuum.
mine does the same and so does my brothers, nothing to worry about mate, perfectly normal.

I am glad it is nothing to worry about, but I was expecting the vacuum system to easily keep up with repeated pedal pushes with engine running.

Hi Spinifex,
The series II 3.0TD had a small vacuum
tank whereas the series III on do not.
While what you describe is "normal", it can get worse! I had exactly the same problem you describe but it had got worse (vehicle 2 1/2 years old at the time). I previously got 3 rapid gear changes before any notable change but then it got to the point of only 2 rapid gear changes. Nissan replaced the clutch booster cylinder as a fix thinking it was a leaking diaphragm.
However it made no difference and the problem was still there. They then refused to do any further work as they had spent over $1,250 on parts "fixing" it. They proceeded to tell me that it is normal but when I pointed out they initially agreed it was a "problem" and spent $$$ fixing it, why is it now no longer a problem? They ducked and weaved and offered to install the series II vacuum
tank for $250.
I compared it to several new 3.0TD's and after three rapid clutch pushes they too became harder. However, they retained ~60% of the assistance and it got no worse after repeated uses. My vehicle currently can do 2 rapid clutch uses and proceeds to get down to ~40% assistance before stabilising.
Its been like this for a year now and has got no worse in that time. In my vehicle, I put it down to a bit of wear on the vacuum pump but as it hasn't got any worse I can easily live with it.
But, Nissan's woeful handling of this and a few other minor problems is why I am extremely unlikely to buy a Nissan again.

Now that you mention it I did notice the absence of the small black canister at the far right of the engine bay. There is also a check valve inside one of the vacuum hoses at the same location, wonder if this could be your problem.

Not a problem whilst driving along but clutch can go firm a bit whilst reversing trailer up drive.

Hey Spinifex.
Can you use low range 4wd then you dont have to ride your clutch.
I have a quite steep drive and use low 1st to pull 1ton in the trailer up easily.

My 98 2.8 GU firms a little if used alot in quick succession, Never worried me as it recovers so quickly.
