G'day Travellers,

I'm in the early stages of planning a trip over to the South Western Corner of this great land of ours.
What maps are available either electronic or paper of the area from Esperence to Perth.
I have the Hema and Westprint Desert ones (which don't cover ther area) and the Nataster DVD's but is there anything else available.

Thanks for your help peoples.

There is Raster 50k for South West of Western Australia

www.gpsoz.com.au/sawa_50k.htm

If you've got a Garmin GPS you can load ShonkyTopo maps into it, they are much better than the T4A pro.

I have the QPA map book Roads and Tracks of Western Australia. It has most roads and tracks - even the track to our farm gate! I have noticed it does not have all the roads to the Pallinup Estuary - it has the tracks but not the road which we went on a few years ago, so it isn't perfect. I haven't been out and about to test it on any other areas since i bought it last year (i think it is now available on ExplorOz). It also includes the Nullabor in SA.

Hi Willem - It's hiding there as my second picture (green grass - taken at Pannawonica), but i need to take the Bushtracker out somewhere special, like my present picture, before it takes precedence. May be a while before we can do that. Meanwhile we got reasonable rain last Saturday, and the unstocked paddocks are showing a faint tinge of green today.

Hi Willem; he wasn't going to be happy with anything less - he's been drooling every time he's seen one for years. This weekend it will get some exercise as we have to bring a family convoy towing farm equipment from the Gairdner property back home, as that is the farm that has been sold (we hope - settlement a couple of weeks away yet). I haven't driven it yet - it's so big. He's setting up the rear view screen and cameras - won't have time to get it working for this weekend, but i will appreciate a good view of what's behind.

Des,

As you know, I do a bit of 'rock-kicking' and therefore I use geological maps a lot. I find geo maps have a far better indication of tracks than any topo maps I've seen or HEMA maps etc. They are very detailed. I never use anything else.

And BEST OF ALL,,,,,,,,,,,,they're freeeee!

Here's the link:

Site Link

They are downloaded as JPEGs. I find it's best to then convert 'em to "ozf2" files, using Ozi-Explorers "File Conversion" patch, which works very well and is also FREEEEE!

Then simply calibate 'em as normal on Ozi-Explrorer and yer laughing all the way home,,,,,,,,,,after being out there of course ;)
