With three weeks till departure on the stage 2 of the "Roads Less Travelled" tour, I was just wondering if anyone had been along the
David Carnegie Road of recent times (Later than the trek notes 06/06). Another quick-one, towards the end of the travel season last year, there was a rumour floating about
Warburton that the Gunbarrel was going to be graced by the blade of a grader (Hard to believe but a credible rumour at the time!). This was "allegedly" going to occur in August 06. Anyone know if it in fact happened? Cheers Mick.

Didn't you go that way last year? Shouldn't be much difference now. Hope there is some
water in
Empress Spring for you.
Cheers

Thanks Willem. No I came down the Canning from the top and got as far as Kunawaratji then into Rudal River (with a short detour to Pt Hedland for a new fuel
tank). Then from Cotton
Creek across the Talawana to the Gary and then the short run on the eastern section of the Gunbarrel. Going to make up the rest of it this year. Looking forward to Rudal River in Particular. Hoping to find the track that runs out past
hanging rock to the vicinity of the Woodie Woodie
mine. A lot of it was lost in one of the cyclones a few years back. May not get through but there's some great country out there to see. The journey not the destination sort of thing.
Mick.

Must've been another Mick....lol
Anyway we did the DC Road last year. It is an easy run. The only decent
camp spot is in the Mulga on the right about 1km past
Empress Spring.
Eagle Hwy is also OK but with more washouts. We camped at Eagle Hussar Airfield. There is also an old shed nearby. We turned off at
Warri Site and headed west cross country to the Calverts. Next year I want to do the tracks I have missed such as
Hunt Oil Road and parts of the Gary and Talawana and beyond.
Rudall was terribly dry when we were there in 2005. We got permission from the Cotton
Creek elders to take the back way in. It was quite rough in
places and very overgrown. This year Rudall should be really good with all the rains. I went looking for the track out to
Meeting Gorge but lost it after a while. I think I have seen that track to Woodie Woodie on my raster maps. Might be washed out a bit. Still, nothing ventured.........
Cheers

sounds like a nice trip to be doing - just be aware there has been a lot of rain and it is still raining so be prepared for wet and more wet. just means that those of us heading that way in july should have a pretty good time. rgds
