I have a strange clunking sound when closing the main rear door (the one with the spare on it), on my GU. The noise seems to come from a small pivot hinge in the middle of the door, not the hinges. It clunks about three times only when closing the door, and nothing when opening. Can anyone please help me as the noise is driving me crazy.

ps. Happy easter to all and safe motoring!!

There was a recall on early Gu's for a rear door problem. I think it was related to the striker, but this was fixed on the series II GU. Talk to your local nissan guy.

I have a 98 GU and I have exactly the same noise. It comes from some sort of limit strap in the middle of the main door, but mine clunks on open AND close. If you find out how to fix it I'd like to know :-))

Have a look and check the backing plate on the frame . Some of them have been breaking on the welds. Ray
