Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows of something to put in the Hot Water System Tank to clean it. We have not used our Hot Water System for over a year and the water coming out of the tap stinks. Any ideas? Could you possibly put white vinegar into it?

Regards,

Jade

Flush it well, refill it, heat it up, flush it well then try it. If it still smells repeat.

The water goes rotten after a while sitting especially if you have been through some of those places where there is Iron and sulphur in the bore water.

Thanks for your replies.

I will try give it a flush out.

I have noticed our water come out a bit white before. This must be from the anode and the crap in the water. We emptied our hot water system before and heaps of white/grey stuff came out. We are in Hopetoun, WA at the moment and the water is filthy. We burnt out our last kettle because of the water here. Our kettle at the moment is brand new and I clean it out once a fortnight with white vinegar to get rid of the white build-up. It does the trick. If I didn't do this it will end up dying too. So I am guessing the hot water tank is the same type of thing. We have got a filter now on the van so hopefully this will help as well.

Thanks again.

Jade.

A good way to clean your kettle is to boil a cut lemon in it a couple of times, ususally gets most gunk out - don't know if you can do this in your HSW or not, - it doesn't leave a taste like vinegar does.

Do you have a bottle of CLR - "Calcium Line Rust" cleaner?
It is available from most hardwares (including Bunnings) and costs about $15.
Coleman recommend it for cleaning their HWS .....................Keith

They are both great ideas. I will try flush out then if that doesn't work then I will resort to another idea I think.

I have never used CLR before. Just have seen it advertised.

Thanks.
