i have a rodeo 2002 mod turbo diesel intercooled. electronic fuel injection pump that is missbehaving, i think the problem is in the injection pump, that i have to prime the system every time i start the vehicle.
has any one heard this complaint before
every time i stop the vehicle, with in 20 seconds i cannot restart it,
no leaks any where, and new primer fitted

Did you fill the new filter with diesel BEFORE you fitted it?.
If not pull it off, fill it with diesel and put it back on, give the primer pump a workout and start the engine.
I have had similar problems to you, and the above IS the cause.
No amount of pumping the primer pump seems to clear the air lock.
Removal and filling is the only way Ive found that works.
Good luck

Check all clamps on lines on suction side, they may look ok but give them a twist & make sure they don't move, Also inline filters at bango bolts can be a hidden surprise.

Good luck , Axle.

G'day Greg. Our ute is also '02', but old body shape. (TF, maybe?), while yours is possibly the newer job. We have had no problems at all, apart from fuel consumption. The good old 2.8 engine averaged 8.7 l/100km over 280.000, and the 3l runs around 10l/100km : quite a rise; (12% at a quick estimate)
People say 'more power - more fuel' .
My response is...........BS! Look around!!
I realise that I've diverged from your post, but I hope we can get a few figures together as comparisons. Thanks eh, Jeff. h.

greg,

as mentioned, sounds like an air lock. In my 2.8 I have several methods depending on my then current frame of mind-

remove filter, fill with fuel and refill. Prime and that should get most of it out the way.- Good frame of mind- bear in mind, I have fitted a cav system and is a little harder to get to the filter

Remove a fuel line close to the pump and prime until diesel escapes the line. This will get a vast majority out,- not so good mind frame

Or my usual, which is to prime the pump, leave the bonnet on the safety catch, start her up, reverse out of driveway, then attempt to drive off. As you apply the revs and take off, vehicle should stall. Get out and reprime. I do this about 2 or three times and then she is sweet.- mind frame so bad I should be doing something else rather than fixing this bloody ute!!

Good luck
