Hi All,
I live in the western suburbs of
Melbourne, I'm after some sound insilation (foam or wool) for the inside of my GU. Any info would be appreciated.
Paul

I think Bilbo has become a bit of an expert on this, wherever he may be:-)

Hi Paul
Jaycar sell some high density stuff , but tend to favor sticky aluminium backed wadding sold from most car parts
places as underbonnet sound insulation myself.
Don't forget bitumous paint , you can apply yourself to inside / outside of guards /door skins to avoid drumming type noise . helps make seals more waterproof as side benefit.

the mob that make the fitted carpets for cars over Dandenong/ferntree gully way sell a sticky backed underbonnet stuff or a wadding/bitumous/wadding sound barrier which is used under existing mats. They also have a sticky backed insulating/foil barrier for the engine/drivetrain side of the floor or firewall.
I bought all three products from them for the Humvee as it had no soundproofing at all and all three products work
well.

When I had a stereo installed in the L/C the installer tried to talk me into an insulation, only about 2-3mm thick and silver backed. He showed me it installed in his car and it was excellent for sound insulation. Maybe talk to a
shop that specialises in car stereo equipment.

I got some sound and heat insulation for my GQ from Tru-Fit in Dandenong works a treat they made it to the 1000mmx1500mm for $65, cut the road noise by about 70% and the heat entering the cab by about 80%.
Definatly a worthwhile investment. It's made of bitumen felt and a thin piece of reflective material
