Hello all.
I've been told that there are seals available for tailgates. Hopefully these would keep a lot of dust out of the rear of my Hilux. Does anyone know where I can get these and how effective they are?
Thanks a lot. Stuart.

I suppose they're rubber and they seal the tailgate.

Try your local rubber shop. I got some seals that pushed on to the right and left side and are still there after a couple of trips to Weipa and the tip, and offcuts of foam rubber strips to seal the bottom of the tailgate. Get a supply of foam strips for the bottom and replace as necessary as they tend to compress after a while. Worked a treat keeping out dust.

Basicaly, rubber strips with adhesive on the back. I picked a coupla rolls up at Super Cheap Autos. Try your local car accesories shops. They do the job pretty well. Then again, bulldust will permeate welded joints. I found bulldust inside a sealed suitcase, I'd run tape around the lid, but it still managed to get in.

Stuart,

I have a 06 Hilux, I got two different profiles of rubber from Clark Rubber. One sort had the metal clip backing that attached to the rails on the body down the vertical sides of the tailgate. The second profile had a circular rubber strip with a flat backing. I drilled some holes in the base of the tailgate and using plastic grommits from Clark Rubber attached it to the tailgate.

It all seals really well, however the rubber on the tailgate is a bit too firm and caused the tailgate to "spring" slightly. If you want me too I could email you some photos.

Steve.

Never thought about putting a seal on my tailgate to keep the dust out. Wouldn't he get thirsty after a while? All the fish you'd have to carry on extended trips could be problematic too.

Hi - don't forget to put the air scoop (or is it airscoop?) in the roof of the canopy - I imagine you must have one. Open the scoop when you hit the dirt and it will tend to pressurise the inside of the canopy and keep out the dust. Prevents the venturi effect caused by the tail gate gaps

Happy Days
George
