Hi all,

Can anyone give me their personal results on either of the 2 tyres mentioned above? I have had experience previously with all terrain tyres ripping lugs off and this is the reason why I am going to a more aggressive tread type this time.

Regards

Sidewalls of Cooper STT are paper thin. Good tyre for bitumen and sand. Average in mud. Useless in the rough stuff.

Agree with you there.
Didn't have a good run with Coopers myself, others swear by them.
And when they do replace a tyre the pro-rata rate and the new price is worked on the RRP, not what you paid, which is usually discounted.
Also add up what you pay in wheel alignments and rotations to keep up the warranty.
Ran two sets of ATs, and they chipped quite easily on some of the QLD development roads. That was a while ago, and I better give coopers the benefit of the doubt and realise that they may be using new compounds now.

Each to thier own.

Never used Mickey Thompsons, so can't comment on them.

Im gonna have to be one that swears by the cooper stt's...

have done about 13,000km on them - 10,000km were on our trip (Tib - Birdsville - Alice (plenty hwy) - mt dare - ood track ).....we did all sorts of terrain especially around mt dare being the rockiest roughest trip over the whole 6 weeks...they were great through everything......

had them at 19psi for big red, 22 for around mt dare and the other stuff, for donohue (rocky) and plenty hwy ( bulldust).

Go well on tar too......

haven't used mickey t but did consider them at one stage....suppose to be pretty good too.....

stt warrenty doesnt exist ! none of that 80,000km business !!!!

we are happy with them....no chipping!! when we did get to alice though the sides of the lugs were a little worse for wear but the guy who rotated them for us said that no matter what tyre you have on the roads that sort of damage is normal....they have come good though!!

Have a set of Cooper STs, ripped a couple of blocks off them, told I did not let the pressure down enough. So brought a set of MTZs dropped pressure to 25 thought it would be enough ripped a bit off one of them as well. Must have to much power in the MU hahahaha. But they seem to be ok other than that.
Got the Cooper fixed and getting another set of rims so will put them on the Wizard when we go bush.
Cheers Bruce

Hey Bruce,

The tyres I had were the ST's as well. Funny though because my mate has the same with out any lockers and needs to push his truck harder with more revs and his tyres are in mint condition. Wierd.

I'll second that. My 315/75R16 MTZ are great tyres......as good or maybe better than my Goodyear MTRs. As for Coopers....well I haven't used their STT, but their ST's were enough to put me off forever!!!!

Forgot to say that the side walls on the MTZs are the best in the business, Iam sure the rep told me they have carbonfirbe in the side walls.

Hi Goona, I have the STT's and have had no problem with them. Put them on for our trip in 05 up to the Rock and home via the Painted Desert, Oodnadatta track with the van on and all good. Have also done some fairly serious Vic High country drives at low pressures . Regards, Chambo
