When making a full lock left turn at walking pace, there is a screaching sound from the front end. Anyone had this before??

I thought it might not be CV as they usually click loudly.
I know the swivel ball seal is leaking slightly, but oil loss is minimal. Anyway, oil in there shouldn't be a problem - unles the diff gets low level or it runs onto brake disc.

How horrible is a seal & king pin change? Where do you get the king pin shims?
Cheers

Hi Beast of Bodmin,
What can I say, but if the noise is from the hub, the book says that the knuckle should be 3/4 full of molybdenum disulphide lithium base grease, you can get a fair idea of the grease level by removing the plug on the front top of the knuckle and use a scewdriver as a dipstick. It will be very interesting to hear the outcome.

Cheers, Jerry

Hi Bob
If you are holding the steering wheel hard over it may be the power steer pump unloading excess pressure.
Or, is one of the tyres rubbing on something.
A couple of thoughts

I would start by checking the belt tension at your power steer first... when you put the wheel at full lock and the bypass valve is working hard it puts a bit more pressure on the system and if your belt is loose it will squeal...

If you give the motor a few revs (while riding the clutch or something) the noise will increase with the revs... if so you can rule out mechanical in the front end..

I was thinking that if not that I would be looking at the swivel hub assembly but then I was thinking about brakes... it could be that at slow speed and full lock the disc rotor is possibly moving across to the pad.. just a thought..

If it is not any of these I would be looking at the whole swivel hub assembly... try to work out if you can make the noise happen in any way without the vehicle moving with the wheel in the air or something to try to narrow the field of possibilities..

Best of luck

there is a bronze bush in the stub axle(snout) that supports the outer end of c.v. joint @ the wheel bearing run on this .when you fit new bush it needs to be reamed out to have about 2mm side was movement,if not reamed will pick up on c.v. shaft & spin in stub axle & make hoorible sqreach noise
