FINALLY we are making a trip to
Cape York this August. Is there anything we need to be aware of on the Old Telegraph Road that may affect taking a Slide On Camper on the back of 4x4 Mazda.
Do we need permits and if so how do we go about getting them?
Thanks
Diane

No permits required.
Can't see any problem taking a slide on on the Mazda.
Best to have a
snorkel for Nolan's Brook crossing.
Water levels should be generally low in August.
Buy alcohol where you want to drink it - penalties are massive for infringement.
Make sure you enjoy a swim at Eliott and
Fruit Bat Falls - magik!

Get the bible of the Cape.
Ron & Viv Moons "
Cape York adventurers guide"
EVERYTHING is covered there, and I do mean everything.
Your Mazda will be fine, as long as its in peak condition mechanically.
I am leaving for there in 20 sleeps time, but who's counting LOL
Plan
well and enjoy the trip.
Colin.

Thanks all
Had the TJM
Snorkel fitted a couple of weeks ago, the Mazda is this years model and I have the Book, so as long as I can buy a bottle to enjoy at the top sounds like I'm set.

Opinions and experiences vary, but we particularly enjoyed our stay at
Punsand Bay. Close to
the tip and a great bar with meals and drinks, and good campsites. Can't swim in the sea though....
If you catch some nice trevalley off the shore like we did, you can get take-away chips from the resort - we got a HUGE bowl for $8 to go with the 2 fish, all enough for 8 people. All washed down with a bit of liquid stuff and that was heaven.

I second the call about the Ron and Vis book its excellent.
Have been to the Cape twice, stayed once at
Punsand Bay and Once in the
camping ground in Sesia.
Both experiences were very positive and if I had to choose again I would choose Sesia, but only because I really enjoyed the short trip to
the wharf every afternoon for the fishing of
the wharf, It was amazing. Locals catching everything from squid to sharks with hand lines, plenty of bait fish easy to get under
the wharf. Great fun.
I cant wait to go back

You guys might get some mileage out of our trip report from last year - one of the pages is of 'recommended do's and don'ts' (in our opinion of course ;-)
Track file for Ozi, fuel usage, and day by day itinerary..
Hope you enjoy your time up there as much as we did ;-)
