Hi all, when travelling the GCR is there a quarantine centre on the NT border? I seem to recall that some-one on here had said that there was one started up on the WA side. but search as I may I couldn't find the thread. We don't want to load up with fruit and vegies only to have to ditch them in a bin somewhere.
Also is there one on the Tanami coming into WA.
We thought of this while watching the little quarantine dog at the airport this afternoon ( they are so cute).
Cheers

No for both, but there has been talk about setting one up at
Laverton in the future at the start of the GCR. I have also heard(rumours) of mobile checkpoints whereby Quarantine Officers drive around to check vehicles but I have never seen one in my travels in the outback.
Many years ago shortly after they built the station at the NT/WA border on the Vic Hwy, we had a blue with the inspector there. He virtually robbed us of all our good fruit and vegies as in those days there was no information about these checkpoints. Buying new food at
Kununurra was bitterly expensive and inferior quality (probably still is except for whats grown there) and I poured some petrol into the drum of discarded fruit and veg so no one could help themselves including the inspector. There was a near riot....lol

Thanks Willem, ROFL smart move pouring the petrol on the vegies, I remember a loooooong time ago when living in a coastal town we had become friends with the Fisheries guy and receiving some nice cray fish that 'could have been confiscated' so I understand why the near riot.
Cheers

WA checkpoints:
• WA-NT border on the Victoria Hwy (24 hrs).
•
WA-SA border on the Eyre Hwy (24 hrs).
• Other border (desert) roads use a mobile checkpoint vehicle
on a random basis.
• Honesty
bins are located about 20 km east of
Laverton; and
on the Tanami Road and Duncan Highway near
Halls Creek.
•
Perth Domestic Airport (detector dogs meet most flights).
• Indian Pacific train (inspectors board the train at Kalgoorlie
and
Perth).
•
Kununurra airport (inspectors meet most flights).
•
Broome airport (inspectors meet most flights).
Not all of us are right... lol

I was coming back to
Laverton and yes the tomatoes are $8 and the lettuce is $5 but its the beer price you really have to worry about.

Yes, I can confirm there was one about ten days ago stopping vehicles heading West. Witches hats across the road.

G'day D,
There used to be an honour system, whereas they left it up to the public to dispose of their fruit and veg prior to going either way on the NT/WA border.
