As mentioned in a previous post my wife and I are looking at purchasing a new tent style camper trailer.
To provide the right amount of space for 2 adults and 2 children (14 and 5 yrs) for both long term stays, weekends and overnights we are considering a model that has an extended tent section.
However, this would make the camper trailer unit rather wide and we think possibly difficult to positon on a caravan site.
We would appreciate any comments from people that have used their camper in caravan parks.
Thanks
JTC

Get a Trak Shak ..they open backwards, but are relatively wide, compared to others.
But in saying that, we have had no problems setting up in caravan parks either, especially the cramped ( but nice one ) behind the rear of the
Blinman Pub
Heaps of room ,,sleeps 6 adults easily,, 10 minute setup ,,will go anywhere you are game enuf to drag it,.
Tough as

you want fotos ,, just email me, no probs

JTC,
We often stay in CV Parks with our Trak Shak. It requires an area 8m by 5m to set up comfortably. It is also quite high so we need to consider overhanging branches etc. In some parks this has been a problem but it is mostly OK.
Before I start to set up I have a good look at the site. If I think it will be tight I pace it out. You soon learn where it will and will not fit.
Occasionally CV
Park operators will see the size of the trailer and put you on a small site. I have only ever had one minor argument about this when a guy in
Esperance, with a near empty
park, wanted to put me on a small site to "leave room for the bigger vans that might come in." I had to be reasonably firm with him about the size of the camper when set up. He agreed to let me pick a site and later apologised when he saw the TS set up.
Only once in 10 years is not to bad. I have had many other issues with
park operators in that time. The other thing that caused us problems was a
park on the
Yorke Peninsula where they let us set up across the site and then insisted that the draw bar must face the road. I had a substantial argument with him. Check on that one before you set up if ever you are down that way.

Hi JTC,
I can't help with brand of trailer, but I wouldn't think width would be an issue as most caravan sites in caravan parks are wide enough to accommodate the width of a van plus an annexe.

We have had 2 camper trailers, the first being like you describe and the second being a hard floor style.
The soft floor was on a trailer that was 7 x 5 ft and the camper extended out 12 ft to the side and then the awning extended out from the camper by 8 ft. We then had an annexe that fitted onto the awning and by the time it was all set up it was a really good size for 4 people to live in for an extended stay.
We set this up in van parks without any problems. We never had to ask or look for a bigger size site and found that it went on all the sites with ease and still had enough room for the landcruiser.
I think that your concerns are not warranted and if it fits the bill price and feature wise, then go for it.
You will have lots of fun, so just enjoy it.

The side fold c/t that we have for sale has the 12ft tent section and 8ft annex ,means you end up with 18x18ft under canvas ,add pegging out window awnings ect means a fairly large site is needed ,never yet had a problem with a c/
park site size , always just said when booking that need the same amount of room as if had a 30ft van . LOL.

Sometimes I don't think it's the size of the trailer that they worry about.
ie they think trailer=caravan
Many's the time we've been stuck in amongst the caravans with our camper trailer....
Would much rather be away on the grass somewhere as we don't need power, but some operators seem to classify us as a "caravan". Maybe they don't like the
wheels on their lawn???

Hi jts.tlc
We have have recently sold our CT that had an extended tent section (pic might still be in the trader section) and never had any problems at C/parks even the real tight ones like noosaville where the sites are quite narrow. If we had any doubts we would lay out the shade cloth floor which was under every thing to check for the bets orientation

We had an Adventure Camper which folds out the rear and along the side as
well, never had a problem fitting in caravan parks, only an issue in one place in
Broken Hill was
parking the car, only just enough room to fit the 80 series (with dual wheel carriers on the back) in front of the camper as the sites weren't very wide, but in most
places plenty of room to
park the car in font of it providing it's either long or wide enough.
We have a couple of kids and have now purchased an All Terrain with the 8ft annexe and 14ft (or 17ft? can't remember it was the bigger one anyway) tent section. Folds out to the side with annexe out the back where the tailgate & kitchen is. It's very spacious for a family and top quality materials. We haven't taken delivery yet so can't comment on how much space it will take up. Just one we were impressed with in all regards, price / quality and features.
In general I don' think you will have much of an issue with whichever camper you choose, maybe occasionally. The issue will probably be more so if there is enough space to
park the car too! Worst case scenario you can always opt for a powered (caravan site) which should be pretty much guaranteed to fit.
