i'm interested in buying one of these kits as i've previously written off 2 tyres. One concern i have is the time lag before you get alerted to a problem.
I'm told the Sensatyre wheel sensors normally send an update to the receiver every 5 minutes, but will report a fault in 50 seconds (as advised by outbackaccessories.com). Smartire sends every 3 to 5 minutes (smartire.com)

Since you can destroy a tyre even within 50 seconds, it appears to me that these systems are really only for slow leaks not major ones.

Is this correct or am i missing something here?

Drew ,
Last year we went on a desert trek and a fellow forumite had just installed a tyre monitoring set-up .
He spent the entire week worrying about the variations it kept recording - there was nothing wrong with his tyres but he kept reading calamity into the ups and downs .

I'm sure you would know if you had a major leak pretty quick, it's the slow leaks that sneak up on you.

Hi Drew

I read this with interest. I have access to a new unit that can take up to 10 sensors.

It takes a reading every 6 seconds of temp and pressure. They simply screw onto the valve tip and the monitor is cordless with a rechargable lithium battery and a in-car charge cradle. They are also programmable.

The only problem is the price. I work out a retail of around $250.00 for the kit with 4 sensors and $25.00 per extra sensor.

What do you think of the price compared to what you have seen.

Regards

Derek.

P.S.

I don't sell them or stock them. I am just interested in the feedback.

The price seems fine to me compared to Sensatyre & Smartire .. why do you think the price is a problem?

The system looks very good to me. In fact i would be quite happy with a more 'portable' system like this one .. ie just use it for longer highway or 4WD trips & pack it away the rest of the time (I'd be concerned that someone would nick the valve cap sensors when it was parked in a carpark!) Are the valve cap sensors heavy enough that the wheels would need to be balanced with or without them?

I couldn't find anything on the system by doing a search of "Jette" in google ... do you have any more info on them? eg:
- the battery life of the valve cap sensors & whether the batteries are user replaceable
- how simple is it to program

any info appreciated as i'm quite interested at that price

Price is not a problem ..configuration of display is the question
and batteries in the sensors ??
are they throw away sensors ? or factory replaced batteries as some are
I have 12 tires .. 6 on truck and 6 on boat trailer and am looking
for a good system since quite some time ..
battery life is what did put me off so far ... 3 to max 4 years for a sensor
and the 25 US$ for battery change ... actually it is not really true , it was more the size of the sensors and above look smaller, which would be better

so what is the battery life and procedure of above ...

thanks

G'day Derek,

If you access to this set-up, I'd be interested in getting a set off you, please.

I have wanted to fit a monitoring system for some time, but have been put-off by the need to remove tyre from wheel to do so and also the need to alert tyre repairers etc to be bloody careful.

With this system, as suggested by another contributor, I would only fit the devices when I was going on a trip; not around town..... Great stuff......

The prices you mention sounds very good to me, I would need 6 sensors.

Regards,

Roachie

The other benefit of this system, as I see it, is that I nearly said I'd need 8 sensors. But then I realised I only need enough to cope with the 6 tyres I have on the ground at any one time......no need to have sensors on the spares (as there is with the inside-the-wheel type sensors).

Derek, i've sent an email to your work address as suggested

.. however another question for you. if the sensor batteries only last a year then they would definitely need to be user replaceable and the batteries of a 'standard' type that can be easily purchased & replaced if they failed during longer trips

if you confirm this then i'll be looking at buying one of the systems too

cheers .. Drew

Sure, I will find out.

I think they are a watch or hearing aid type battery.

At the Hong Kong show they just unscrewed the 2 halves to replace the battery.

Derek.

Hello Drew T.

We have the Smartire system fitted to our near new Navara and have had for about 6 weeks now.

This is from the "Smartire Training Program", a copy of which I obtained from Smartire.

. Monitors pressure and temp every 7 seconds during normal driving conditions.
. Transmits data approximately every 5 minutes unless pressure changes, then data
is sent within 7 seconds.
. Transmits every 15 minutes when the vhicle is parked and the pressure drops to
18 psi.

We opted for the Full Function Displat guage and have found this to be fantastic.

We have just returned this week from a 2 trip from Melb to the Flinders Ranges
and I couldn't fault the system.
Just simply tell the system (very easily done) what your cold tire pressure is and it will monitor it and the tyres temperature from that moment on. It is very sensative and yes it will show you variations between the tyres but if you set them with your acurate guage you will find that the variations from your set pressure will probably only be around 1-2 psi. In this case the unit will not trouble you because it is within its programmed variation. However, once your tyre has been detected as being outside of this acceptable variation the display will "beep", change colour, and show you the suspect wheel and it's +/- psi variation.

I found that as long as you told it the correct cold tyre pressure it could be left to it's own devices with no further worries. In the case of say letting down your pressure for some off road work it took no more than a few seconds to re programme the unit (believe me it is dead simple) with your lower pressures.

If you don't tell the unit you have varied your pressures it will keep on reminding you of the variation.

Hope it doesn't sound too complicated because it isn't. You tell it the correct information it requires and you won't hear a peep from it unless the wheel has a problem and thats exactly what you want in the system.

With the full function display you can be driving along and check the tyre pressures and temperatures individually at the touch of a button.

From my experience the system is great and is expandable to accept I think 20 wheels which suits us because we are going to get another couple of sensors and fit them to our van.

We have also found the aftersales very good. Prior to going to the flinders, we had some new rubber fitted and unfortunately the tyre fitter forgot about the sensors and destroyed one completely. I phoned them immediately (Tullamarine, Vic) and had a replacement on my doorstep within 24 hours.

We were initially interested in the Sensatyre set up but the retailer (Chelsea/Carrum area) would respond to our calls and emails on the system.
Chose Smartire and would recommend it to anyone.

Drew, come back with a follow up if you want and I'll give you my mobile number and you can find out a bit more about it or come and have a look.

Cheers, Wayne. True Blue.

Should have proof read the above before submitting it.
Sorry about all the spelling mistakes and the 2nd last paragraph should read that the retailer "wouldn't" respond to our calls.

Cheers, True Blue.

thanks for your reply with some very useful information that i couldn't get from the website(s)! In particular, that it transmits within 7 sec of a changed temp/pressure.
