Can anyone tell me the difference between the Garmin Quest & the Garmin Quest2 You feedback good & bad would be appreciated. Will it work with the oziexplora maps? Read an old posting about people inadvertingly wiping the factory aust maps that are loaded when purchased and to re-instate had to be sent back to factory, can anyone expand on this? Updating software - is it free from Garmin?

Hi,
The Quest maps can easily be re-loaded with the supplied software, no need to send it away (unless you don't have a computer!!). Not sure if the Quest II is locally supported/available. The upgrade maps are generally not free and really quite expensive for what they are. The last update was around $180.00 and didn't fix a few errors I had pointed out and had acknowledged by Garmin. So, needless to say, I saved my money. Expect the maps to get updates about every 2 years or so.
Cheers

Hi,
It normally comes with City Navigator loaded, which is actually quite detailed. Has street maps of every city/town, and I mean every, as well as all roads and quite a few tracks. It also comes with car a cradle and it will do voice prompts, so it is quite nice. However, there are a lot more choices now and the quest is probably top dollar for the features you get. The mapping is ok, but you are very much locked in to Garmin maps. There are add-ons like Tracks 4 Australia (which I was quite disappointed with as City Navigator had more detail in the Bago State forest than T4A) but I think main maps are proprietary Garmin only.
Cheers

just read the specs. Actually they are not called proximity points, rather custom POI's.You can load you own POI's (points of interest) on the quest II and then activate them as proximity points, you cannot on the QUEST.
So, check your facts before you accuse me of promulgating BS.

I know what the Quest can and can't do, I own one .
and as for me not reading your quotes , well whats this

One of the thing the Quest II can do is proximity points which allows you to enter speed camera locations and it will sound a warning as you approach. The Quest can not, although they can be added to a route which is a bit tedious.
Cheers

YOU WROTE THAT

AND AS i SAID THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE THE MEMORY [ which your lacking ] AND THE BETTER SCREEN BRIGHTNESS .

Now nick off and don't bore me

Well Doug,
I don't want to get into a slanging match. I own a Quest too, as well as a Gpsmap60CS, and a few others. I know what they can and can't do. As for the links you referred to, wouldn't it be better to refer to the official GARMIN site?
You can do a side by side comparison of the 2 units there and you will realize while they are very similar, they are NOT the same. Even the firmware update is different.
Anyway, this is all rather silly since the Quest 2 is not marketed here anyway and importing for local use would not be a good idea as the basemap is not the same and there would be hassles getting local warranty support should it be needed.
Have a good sunday and please calm down. It really is not that important. Someone asked a question and I simply answered to the best of my knowledge.
AND WHAT I SAID IS CORRECT!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

are you some kind of nut or what

your quote :Anyway, this is all rather silly since the Quest 2 is not marketed here anyway :
IT IS MARKETED HERE you clown , how many times do I have to tell you Quest 1 had 115 mb Quest 2 has 243mb and IS on sale in Australia, , seems you didn't read things in the links ,
Although it is not called Quest 2 now it is the 2nd version ,
Mine is the 1st version with Firmware update , Do you think I don't study the best GPS's on the Market, that website I posted is My own web site
members.westnet.com.au/dtilley/maps.htm I read all I can about a product so that I can give a sensible and truthful answer to anyone who post's a question about Garmins .Now I would strongly suggest you do a bit of studying too before you shoot your mouth off again

Quest II is the 2nd generation , much more expensive. Not worth it !

I bought my Garmin Quest from USA with Nth America/Canada Maps, it comes with Car kit with speaker. It guides you around in USA with ease !

In Australia, I have a copy of Aust Metro Map with my Garmin eTrex Vista, it can be used in Quest, but it does not voice and Route info., so not much use. However, we can download FREE most of bush tracks into the Quest, quite handy. Please see link www.gpsoz.com.au/tracks4australia/.

In the bush, I carry my notebook with Oziexploter and NATMAP, together with a bluetooth GPS (costs Aud $70), I may not get lost, but I can still get bogged.

Last week, I bought my 3rd GPS ! It is a HP HW6515f, it is a PDA phone + built-in GPS receiver. It costs me $430.00 + $80 (Two Memory cards 3 GB) + $60.00 (Car Kit, Porch, spare stylus). It comes with Co-Pilot GPS, quite easy to use, but I prefer TomTom6. If you do a search in www, you should be able to download every Map of a city. This is the way to go, rather than stick/stuck to GARMIN or Magellan..etc

So all up, I have 3 GPS in my car !

I have read all the replies up to now, KKC is not in a position to comment, he bought his from USA , plain stupidity as far as I'm concerned because the base map is USA and to get the Australian City Nav' will be another $360,
The difference is that the first quest , like mine has only 115 mb memory , Quest II has 243 MB memory so will give you room for all of Australia plus T4A as well. The screen is brighter also , it does Tracks and Routes , Nuvi's don't I think you would like the Quest, it also records over 4000klm of track ,.
At the moment Johnny Appleseed has a good deal too, I can recommend them as OK for Internet Buying, I just bought a Nuvi from the Brisbane Shop .anyhow check out the website and also my GPS page as well

Agree with Doug T as I just purchased a Garmin Quest with 115 memory and the main difference in Garmin 1 and 2 was the memory size which did not bother me and for the price I got it suits me. I got mine with an upgrade map in city navigator 7 free.

If that chap bought a quest with 115M or memory just recently off a dealer, then it is VERY old stock. The current Quest has been available for nearly 2 years with 243M and City Navigator pre-loaded. As for the difference with the Quest 2 as sold in the US, I stand by my comments, Doug. If you took the trouble of looking at the Garmin website and do a side by side comparison, you will notice the Quest 2 can have coustom POIs, and that is a big difference if you want to load in your own warning locations.

The 243Mb model still doesn't allow me to put ALL of the Australia map onto it. I have had to leave a couple of sections off. I have added T4A PRo also, but was disappointed that the internal memory was about 5 Mb short to accommodate the entire map of Australia from the City Navigator CD.

Still haven't figured out the GPS usage / side of the unit yet.

That's strange. I have the full set (City Navigator, although not the latest version) and still have room for all of T4A and some spare for topo overlays.
