You will probably find that the gears inside corroded and not allowing you to disengage them.

Not a big deal, remove the end housing and the gears will be exposed. Clean them up a bit of grease and away you go.

Whilst you have it in pieces put a compressible foam washer under the gear leaver ( engage disengage handle) it will keep out a lot of the rubbish water etc. then simply reverse the process and assemble the bits.

Make sure when you take the gears apart that you know which way they go back in. Reason is there is one that fits both ways though if assembled the wrong way you wont be able to disengage the winch to free spool.

Cheers

Yeah,, like blue one said....

Inside your gear housing there is a large ring gear which is probably seized against the housing from water/moisture ingress..
No big deal to rectify...

Make sure your winch isnt mounted upside down in a TJM bar with the drainholes pointing up either...
