Good Camping spots near
Bourke
Hi all I have heard from other travellers that it is better to
camp a little out of town . Can get a bit rough at times apparently.
Anybody know of the location of a good (and fairly safe)
campsite within say 10 km of town? Alternatively - have you been happy to stay in a van park (if so where?) Appreciate any comments

I have travelled through and around
Bourke but this place looks OK and I'm sure any CP in town will be OK, I live in Cloverdale (
Perth) and it can get a little rough at times also ...LOL www.kidmanscamp.com.au/

Lifeisgood,
Check post 42934 about a spot called
Mays Bend about 18km from
Bourke. I haven't been there but remembered reading it a while ago. It might be ok for you.

Hi, we camped at
North Bourke caravan park a few ks out of the CBD on the road to
Tibooburra and
Cunnamulla a couple of years ago. Go over the
Darling River bridge and you will see the park on the right. Fees were reasonable then too. It was a lovely spot and no trouble.

Yep Kidmans CP is very nice and very friendly. The "locals" in
Bourke are great people too its just that there is an element of 'bored youth' that seem responsible for most of the problems.

Mays Bend is a great place on the Darling. Out past the Kidman
Camp caravan park then turen right at the
sign and follow your nose to the river. Nice quiet and free spot.

If you have time,
Menindee lakes has good camping/fishing/sunsets and also history, as it was the starting depot for the
Bourke and Wills expodition...There is a tree called the Wills tree that is blazed and has wills's face carved into it.

Bourke a bit rough at times????? Understatement lol.
We camped about half hour out of town towards
Louth. It was at a weir.....Pesty where was it exactly???I think it was called 9 mile weir so it could be 9
miles out of town lol.

If you don't like the idea of staying in
Bourke you could travel to
Cobar, nothing rough around here!
National park near
Menindee camping right next to the river is really nice! Cost as much as a caravan park though!

Mays bend is a great spot but only in the dry, if it looks like rain run. Mt. Oxley a bit further out of town great spot a bit pricey though.

Maye's Bend is 16km north of
Bourke on the way to
Cunnamulla and is a top spot to
camp, although it is inaccessable after rain. Kidman's
Camp caravan park is one of the best parks you will ever come accross. It is about 7km north also on the way to
Cunnamulla. Both of these
places are safe and quiet, the 19 mile (30km) weir on the way to
Louth is also a good spot. I'm a local, so you can take my word for it.
