Hi all,

Has anyone recently had a water tank custom made from stainless?
Was after rough ideas on cost and if anyone could recommend a good fabricator in Victoria!

We had two 110l stainless tanks made for our homemade camper (each with two baffles) and they cost $455 each (in Queensland).

Thanx Ruth- sounds fairly promising- mine should be around half the size, so hopefully about half the price! :-)

Go to a Truck accessory shop and get a Plastic 80lt [ good for drinking ] with a flat top or bottom , depends on how you mount it, I have been using one for 3 years ,

Hi Doug, has actually already checked out your site after going through archives!...

I've currently got a 20lt plastic one between back of fridge and cargo barrier and will continue to use multiple plastic water jerries as extra storage esp on longer trips. Mainly just trying to make efficient use of the already very limited space where my main "plumbed" water container is- I figure if I replace the 20lt jerry with a custom made jobbie, I should be able to get @ 40litres in there?!

Hi Junior - try any manufacturer in the food industry. All commercial kitchen and restaurant gear has to be stainless. The beekeeping industry uses all stainless equipment.
The Boating industry also (but often expensive).
If you ask at a local welding or Argon gas supplier, they should be able to tell you who the Stainless Steel firms are in the area.
Perhaps a Google or the yellow pages for a manufacturer...................Keith

true about boating... grew up on and around yachts- you can sink a lot of money into 'em!!! (even more than 4wd's!)

but will try a few different places to get idea on price- thing with boating guys is they're likely to have easy access to welded hose fittings etc for water

gotta friend/client that is a cabinetmaker (kitchens)- should have some stainless contacts

G'day
I went to a motor wreckers and got a stainless LPG tank. Available from 60 to 110 litres cost virtually nil. In fact I got a 60 lt and an 80 litre for no cost. Just had to get rid of the LPG in the tanks. Kept the BBQ going for months!!! They have legal problems in disposing of the gas so are happy to give them away if they have gas in them. Only worth the scrap value of the SS to them. Very light when MT. Economical in space too, being round.
