Gossy
I am in the process of replacing my shockers (recent
forum). These have done approx 50,000km of hard driving (googs,
gawler ranges,
flinders ranges,
birdsville, innaminka etc etc). I am doing the Simpson in July so I thought it time to replace them for comfort and security of knowing they are new.
My question though is do I need to replace the steering stabiliser at the same time? Does this have a hard life like the shockers when off road? A general question is how often are the coils replaced?
Thanks,

The steering damper reduces vibration on rough surfaces coming back through the steering wheel (personally i would)
Coils are replaced when you feel the need to do so ie: ride has softened, sagged, won't carry weight effectivly any more. this is for you to decide

GQ 1996 2.8TD. 80% of it's 50,000kms (since we have had it) have been off road. Just not sure if the steering damper has a tough life or not like the shocks.

Most likey ok - certainly
mine was with 200,000km down including all those trips and others.
If it had oversize wheels though , this causes excessive wear and it would be worth undoing one end and push-pulling it looking for sloop, and oil leaks.
