If is has a spring in-between the side gears and has Clutch disks fitted behind the side gears then it is LSD.
It pretty easy to tell
This is a Ford 8.8 showing the pre load spring and you can see the Locator tabs on the Clutch disks fitted into the carer behind the side gears
This is a Moroso Brute Strength LSD, you can see the heavy duty spring set in-between the gears, they also have extra Clutch disks around 10 I think
Cheers.

If its that landcruiser your wrecking it will almost certainly be a LSD.
If you look on the aluminium plate on the firewall it will mention KO85 which is a LSD.
Im sure they were all LSD after 84 maybe earlier, unless they had lockers.
KO82 is an open diff you mainly see on landcuiser imports.

Nope ,no LSD unless someone has fitted one. It must be a pre 84?
For some reason nearly all landcruiser's exported to OZ had LSD after 84.
I dont know of any other country that got this.
There is nothing bad about the K082 open diff ,it just means that only one wheel on the rear axle propels the vehicle at any one time.
The LSD ,when it senses loss of traction transfers 14% of its torque to the left rear wheel. Not enough to be really useful.
There is a list of the codes here for all landcruiser diff types and ratios.
http://www.off-road.com/tlc/faq/axle.html#HD_NM_24
And the complete TLC FAQ here, slanted towards american landcruisers but still useful
