G'day all,
I have finally purchased my new car. Decided on the 2004 4.0L Prado. Has done 70 000 kms but only on road and is in good nick. My next question is want is my next step to ensure my beast will stay healthy and I can look after it? Are there any mechanical issues people have experienced from this model? If so, what are they? Are there any problems that may arise? I plan to get it in for a full service shortly. Is there anything I should be asking my mechanic to
check the condition of etc. before it becomes alot worse and makes life hell for me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Slammer,
I dont drive a prado, never have but my advice would be for any vehicle purchased used.
Even if not yet required have a major service done...i always do this...it will give you piece of mind that there is nothing wrong, and a firm building block to start you maintainence schedule. Even if some
services have been missed previously, from now on you know you have done your best by the vehicle.
when i purchase a used vehicle there are a few thing i do immediately.
1. Major service
2. New tyres (even if not needed...you will now know your tyres history)
3. Full detail (to clean seals etc so they don't wear excessively due to dust etc)
IMHO i believe these 3 things will keep ya truck in good nick....and
well maintained, and it'll love ya for it.
Hope this helps ya mate.
Cheers

If you are mechanically minded put it up on blocks or a hoist and go over every inch yourself and
check everything that is possible then service it fully as previously.
If you know little about mechanics then go to a TRUSTED mechanic and get him to thoroughly service and
check the vehicle out reporting on anything that needs attention.
The Prado is a pretty capable vehicle that should not give any trouble as long as it's looked after, just keep it away from bowser's as it loves the golden liquid.
