Power Chips for Diesels

Ruth, petal, it's a bloke thing.

It comes under the 'he who dies with the most toys, gadgets & things, WINS!' rule.

It's a bit like shoes and handbags. No rational explanation need exist. Apparently.

If it is bigger and more powerful it has to be better?

Ruth, it's because the new V8 puts out such disappointing power and torque - a chip is needed to avoid never ending self flagellation.....along the lines of "Bugger, a Jeep 2.7 puts out more power than this thing".....

Toyota diesels are pretty gutless so a chip is the obvious choice to bring them up too par.

Wayne-o, thank you for that. Your neighbour is the first we know of (on this Forum) who actually physically has his new Toyota - the rest of us are waiting in excited anticipation (my old fella wants to drive everyone off at the lights with the power of his new Ute) LOL

I drove one afew weeks ago (had less than 50k's on the clock, GXL ute) and saw one on carpoint a day or two ago (500kms on clock). Have read comments from others on other forums who've had there's for several weeks.

Ring your dealer and say HURRY UP. Can't imagine how annoying it is waiting!!

Hi Matt, thnks for that. The dealer rang yesterday and we pick up on Tuesday (Mon being a holiday here) - we were 26 on the list when we ordered in late Jan. Went past the main place in Dalby on Friday to get water tanks and there were all the Toyotas waiting for their bits and pieces. Ours has diff locks and an bigger tray and the tray will be finished on Friday - spotties and extra power points etc (for the fishing fridges!/beer). The Dealer also told old fella that they don't know when the next shipment will be in - haven't even started manufacturing and can't even give them the start date. Last shipment to Qld there were 80 for the whole of Qld and our bloke got 50 of those. We'll probably have the hiccups sorted by the time they start the next lot!

Me thinks some guys like BIG THINGS to compensate their WEENY things.

I drove 1 a month ago.
The Petrol Headed saleman had it tailwagging uphill.
I took the controls and I needed to be aware of the extra power compared to my 78 series. It was bluddy awesome.
Mines coming soon.

Daza, I've got a WEENY and I only drive a Jackaroo!

Transient, that's great. But, have you actually TRIED your new Toyota yet? What will you do about Warranty? I'm, serious in wanting to know the answers. Do you really need the "extra" torque - will you be in situations where you might?

Ruth, I will certainly wait a few months after getting the vehicle before I decide if 30kw is worth $1000. I'm not worried about damaging the engine because the same engine is going to appear in the new 200 series wagon with an extra turbocharger producing over 200kw and about 650nm torque. This chip will produce figures less than that so I feel comfortable about not stressing the engine. I'm going to be towing a caravan; this engine produces figures the same as the current 100 series and a lot of people have found chipping the 100 to be advantageous and non-detrimental.

The next step, of course, is to get a 200 series and chip that !!

Hey Transient.

My old man has a 07 TD RV ute, and he tows a 23' off road C/van, he is flat out keeping it under 110kph, which is the national speed limit except the NT.

I also looked on that site and it looks like the chip is for a twin turbo, which would make it the 200 series and the other chip was for a 6cyl 4.2 TD, there was no mention of one for a V8 single turbo that I could find.

I think all that means is that their website has not been updated. My email was very specific about the engine; I can't see them misinterpreting that.

Anyway, there will be plenty of time to clarify things before I reach into my pocket.

Yep I had a couple of looks at their web -and it changed from the first time I looked and the second time (within hours) when I showed the old fella. It bothers me all this after-market stuff - I've seen how much it costs for recoveries in the SD and the shock and horror when people find out that their after-market stuff is not covered!
